| Help from an experienced breeder Hi everyone Im new here . First thread. Well im here because i have a big doubt about my female 10lbs yorkie. I have had her since she was a puppy. 8wks My mom has a male at her house which we bought same day. We thought that someday we could breed them. And last month was the day. She went into her heat around august 11 2013 So i took her to the male for about 15 day at first she didnt want & he did. Like around day 9-13 she seemed interested she would hump him I believe i saw multiple slip matings So than he wasnt interest around day 15 but she was. So at 4 weeks i took her to the vet to check her & he said just to wait more time. So now here are the signs which i believe she might be pregnant: By the way the male is only 4lbs. At 2 weeks her nipples enlarged. I had totally forgotten about the mating than. At 3 weeks she vomitted 2x. She no longer eats her food she can go all day without eating it if i dont boil the chicken. She has enlarged nipples. Her vulva a lil swollen. She has become super super attached to me. She has wider ribs but no belly at all just when she eats. Thats it shes 37 days today. Not showing at all i cant feel any tiny thing. She also sleeps a lot. & cant lay on her back like she did before. She grooms herself a lot. & also her vulva hair is always wet butdoesnt stink. Not wet but hair looks like wet but dry. Please respond someone any specific sign |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. It is possible your female is pregnant but the signs of a false pregnancy are about the same as if she is pregnant. What did you mean when you said the vet said 'wait one more time'? He should of been able to tell if she was pregnant by palpating her. Usually by the time the female is 5 to 6 weeks pregnant they will start getting a big belly. How old is the male and your female? Since she is a big girl then it might take her longer to show if she is pregnant. If you never actually saw the male tie the female then it is possible she is not pregnant. FYI, you should never leave a male and female together to breed on their own. It can be very dangerous for the male, especially if the male is a lot smaller than the female. Please keep us posted on if she is pregnant or not. There is so much to learn about whelping and raising a litter of puppies.

| I didnt leave them alone. I would just let them walk around the playard. But yeah shes big. But her nipples are big & are building sacks under. The vet said he couldnt feel anything by touching it was day 28. -/+ & he said to take her back in 2 weeks. So they can see her again. They are both 2 yrs old. |

| Bella didnt show at all until she was around 5+ weeks pregnant. We planned her breeding (had been planning since her last heat) but I was convinced it didnt take right up until she had un altrasound at around 6+ weeks. Of course, by then, we could feel the pups move around and kick etc...I actually felt the first "kick and roll" the day before the ultrasound. Some dogs donŽt have all those symtoms people talk about. The only thing that made me think "oh wow, I think it worked" was the sticky discharge that she had/s from her vulva.I actually had to cut her hair there because her fur was literally sticking to her genital area and forming a hard crust, and she was having trouble pooping. Bellas appetite hasnt changed at all, sheŽs never been a big eater, she never had morning sickness (she threw up twice in one day and that was that), infact the only things that have changed is that she wants NOTHING to do with anyone but my older daughter and now she lays on her back, something she NEVER did before. Your girl can have an ultrasound done now, that would tell you if she is or not, but donŽt expect to be able to see or feel much of anything until after 5+ weeks, especially if she only has 1 or 2 pups Last edited by Ginas_babys; 09-27-2013 at 02:55 AM. |

The first thing that made me wonder was the discharge, then we noticed how sluggish she was acting...but other than that, we were just guessing for what seemed like AGES! My vet was out of town, my mentor was coming an going from dog shows and I hadent seen her in a couple of weeks, so I was basiclly just trying to find something that would make it obvious so that I could start planning. The not knowing is awful, because suddenly time slows down and all of a sudden you are watching your dog like a hawk and waiting for a sign lol. Try not to worry, any time now (if sheŽs pregnant) youŽll be able to feel the pups moving for yourself, then not long after that you will even SEE them moving Good luck!

| Oh, by the way, I am in no way or form an "experienced" breeder (although even the best had to start off with that one litter right? lol) This will be Bellas first litter.I have helped other people that breed (my MIL bred raters for a long while, my mentor who breeds yorkies etc) but this will be my first litter...the first litter I will be responsable for. I just wanted to clear that up IŽm sure others will have lots of info for you |

Omg! Really! yeah everyone tells me how fat she looks. But I really didnt pay attention. Until yesterday i ran out of chicken to boil & gave her her canned food in the morning. Which she didnt eat until the night. so went to the store , when i came back i sat down on the sofa which means she jumps & sits with me on top of me shes so so close to me . & i start touching her belly & i stand her up & see this big belly down there & started feeling & OMG it felt like 2 lil lemons idk but right after i walked to the kitchen to boil some chicken & went bak to the sofa to try to touch her again & there was absolutely nothing. I know im not crazy. But i even felt them move. Her nipple day by day are getting flatter but firm & big. Im amazed. Maybe indeed she is pregnant. I already had the idea she wasnt because she doesnt have a belly she just looks Fat. & wide. Today im taking her to weight her. Lets see how much she has gained. Did bella already have her babys? Is she big like my brita is 10lbs

| You need to have an xray done by your vet to know how many puppies she is going to have so that if one does not come you can rush her to the vet because it will kill her to not have a puppy and for it to just say in as well as the puppy. I also hope you have researched and know what to do and what is considered an emergency and what to do when that happens.

| The male's weight is only part of it, it is also about what his lines throw and regular vets are not always experienced in reproduction. There are many things that could come up and cause an emergency situation.
