| My QueTee Will my gang react to Que Tee when she goes in heat? I have two neutered males and one spayed female. My breeder asked that I not spay her until after her first heat. Thanks in advance for your help. |

| I am not sure if they will. I would keep the males seprate from your Que Tee, it's better to prevent anything from happening Good luck with your little girl and with the pack

YT 2000 Club Member | Just curious as to why your breeder recommended to spay after the first heat. Is it because of her size? I always assumed it was best to get it done before a heat.

Now re-action from neutered males might be a bit more interest, kind of like sniffing around her, but usually no aggressive re-action on the male part; how-ever the female can get a tad bit grumpy. THe biggest concern is as you know keeping her safe from all other dogs. Admittedly I am anal retentive, so I never walk any female what-ever day she is in heat. They stay close to home, supervised in the backyard until after heat has finished 25 days at least from first onset. My male Yorkie who is not de-sexed foretold heat up to one month ahead of Zoey's actual heat start. Don't know if that would be the same for de-sexed males or not.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I will not speak for that breeder, but for myself as a breeder. I want to make sure the growth plates close prior to de-sexing a dog. For small breed dogs that is about 8mths old or so; and that means usually after their first heat.

| You will need to watch your males closely when she comes in heat. Hopefully they will not show any interest in her but if either of them have ever been used for breeding then they very well may try to breed her. A neutered male can still accomplish a tie with a female and that is were the danger lies. Your female will likely be teasing them sometime throughout her 3 weeks heat cycle. If your boys start showing any interest then it would be best to keep them away from her.

| Thanks Thank you each for taking the time to post. Guess I will have to wait and see. She certainly will not be out of my reach for the entire time she is in heat. I am keeping my fingers crossed that none of my gang reacts to her! |

| Watch the two females!! Your un altered female in heat, may try to show your spayed female, just who runs the show, and you could have a "cat fight" on your hands!!! All these unspayed females have PMS!!!! But your breeder is in tune with current thinking....allow one heat....this allows the growth plates to mature and there are multiple benefits to all areas/organs of the body, including the brain, that benefit from that initial release of hormones into her system. Spay after the first heat. |

I found that "light day" pads are just fine to put into the diaper or band. Just remember to take the band off when you bring her into the backyard to pee or poo. Also and this is probably in a very small percent of females, but I've talked before how my Zoey was quite frankly a "bit""ch"" in heat. The boys would try to sniff her, now you know the boys are fully intact dogs, and she was the most aggressive I've ever seen her. Very nasty! She was protected by me and her crate, when the boys had to go by to go out to the backyard, but still, she needed to not only show her pearly whites but snap repeatedly at them! I hope you have kept up her crate training, because a full sided crate is very usefull at this time. This will be her maiden heat, and you just don't know how it will go. YorkieMom1 made a great point about your other female too. You will get through this. One way to look at this, is just to separate her as you assess her inter-actions with your other pups, and crate if necessary.
