| mating behavior I have a male and female yorkie. my male is still a puppy 9 weeks, and my little girl is 6 years. im hoping someone can guide me in the right direction with their behavior. lately their play time has turned into them backing it up to eachother. Is this normal play behavior? or foreplay? rest assured that yes we are planning on getting both of them fixed, the male when he is old enough and my female was supposed to be before we brought home the new puppy. however she got sick and we were advised by our vet to hold off on surgery for a couple weeks. her health ALWAYS comes first. I just dont want to stop them if they are playing, i love that they get along. but if its something else i dont want that to become a habit. any suggestions or ideas on what i can do while we wait for her to get fixed? and once they do will that stop the male from 'mounting' everything? |

| Even if it is mating behavior he cant get her pregnant yet so just get her spayed as soon as you can and get him neutered as soon as you can. I have a male and a female spayed and neutered and they never try to mate

| Ya they should be good the sooner you get her spayed and him neutered when you can. I just had mine neutered and am really hoping it stops the mounting another dog. Guess I will wait and see. My sister has 2 male dogs both neutered and they still mount each other. |

| I lollll'ed @ 'foreplay'! It's most likely a dominance thing...@ 9 weeks old, I don't think it's a sexual thing.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Yeah, definitely not a "mating dance"....LOL.....just good ol' fun play, showing dominance, and or wanting attention. My adults will do it now & then either to each other or even us.......to us when they are wanting attention or to be picked up. Kind of like a cat does when they rub up against your leg.......
