YorkieTalk Newbie! | HELP!? Yorkie is pregnant her first heat!!?? After coming home from 2 month long training (I'm in the military), I discovered that the women watching my 9 almost 10 month old Female yorkie is now pregnant! It was her first heat. Some info on her: she is a bigger yorkie (9-10lbs) is very healthy and she isn't puppy like at all. Well behaved. The father whom also is a yorkie is 2 years old (he is not mines) and he is smaller like 4.5-6 lbs,but he also is healthy and both are UTD on shots. In no way I'm a breeder but I have had a litter of puppies (5 years ago with a westie) and I don't want to emergency spay her. But is this a death sentence if I don't!? I want to do what's best but I can't see aborting the puppies as the best way either. I can afford a c section but I'm completely conflicted on what to do! Has anyone gone through this? Did it turn out ok? If we can just get through this she will be fixed but what are my chances of getting through this? |

| Did the breeder you bought your girl from, stipulate she be spayed before you receive her papers? If so, you are not going to be able to register this litter. It seems the people you entrusted with the care and safety of your little girl, threw that trust to the wind, and instead, deliberately seized upon an opportunity to become Yorkie breeders! Now, you are faced with the challenges inherent with a "child" having "children"....I have never been in this position, I never breed until my ladies are mature themselves, usually 1.5 - 2 years old, minimum. I am sure the female is not on any special diet for the ultimate development of her babies. I would suggest you start reading everything you can get your hands on about successful breeding of Yorkies, so that at the very least you will be well versed on complications you need to be knowledgable about. This little girl is dependent on you to make decisions that are in HER best interests. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | with that said on the post above, no need for me to repeat, here you go, you need to learn breeding 101 ASAP.. Dog Breeding and Canine Reproduction by Debbie Jensen. Dog Breeding and Whelping guide for dog breeders. get her a good puppy kibble and start the transition to it, take her to the vet and have her check just her overall health and make sure you take her for x rays at days 58-59 to measure her pelvic bone and see how many babies she is having.. other than that, you can message me any specific questions you might have. start thinking about a whelping area and a whelping box.. hugs, |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Thank you guys. She is on really expensive puppy chow. I mix one that is formulated for yorkies and that blue wild stuff. Brought her to the vet and he said she is big and the male is small so he has faith that the puppies and her have a fighting chance. I can't believe this but I guess I will make the best of it. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | then you should start getting ready, here is a picture of how my setup looks, you might not need everything you see but is some indispensable items you must have, like a tube of calcium, alcohol, betadine, a whelping box, plenty of towels, I love the hand size white ones from the dollar store, dull scissors, benebac, and all the ingredients for the whelping pudding.. hugs, and looking forward to a fast and safe whelping for your gal.. http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...3/IMG_0310.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...3/IMG_0309.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...3/IMG_0314.jpg |

| When Molly had her puppies my husband made 'pig rails' for her whelping box...which was a large plastic tote with one side cut out so she could come and go but up high enough that the puppies couldn't step out until they were older. Here is a website that has pig rails like the ones we made...they are used so the mother can't rest against the side of the box and possibly smother a pup...it gives the pup room between them and the mother all around the box: Dog Health — whelping box pig rails |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | I got it contact with the breeder of the male and the mother was 6lbs and male was 4lbs. My female though had a big mother and very small father. Hopefully all goes well I have bought every book I can find and watched countless videos so far. She is about two and a half to three weeks along. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | How sad, poor gal. Do you have any idea of when the breeding took place? If not you need to start reading and getting prepared for a sudden delivery. Being prepared for the best of the worse. Start gathering your whelping supplies and getting a whelping area ready. Better to be ready early than not at all ! I've seen it too many times here on YT. People in simular situations having no idea why their pup is panting and looks fat , and than surprise! At least you know the dead was done. Deb Jensen"s web site is really good and informative. I've learned a lot form her and suggest you read it and than read it again just to make sure you didn't t miss anything. Please dont be shy about asking questions, no question is a stupid question when it comes to the health and well being of a mother and her pups. There are more than qualified breeders here that are willing to help. But also keep in mind that this is an open forum and that you may be asking for not so nice replies and off the wall comments as well.

My male is smaller than my female, both grandfathers were smaller than the bitches they were bred to as well. Allie ended up pregnant with one puppy that was too big, he got stuck in the birth canal and I rushed her to the ER (I didn't even let het push as long as all the books and videos suggested) and the puppy didn't make it. I could have lost my girl as well. I honestly would emergency spay her. There's too many what ifs and unknowns and you would truly hate yourself if you lost your girl.
