Hello every one. I have had yorkies for 6 years and love them so much. I just breed my 2 females that are 4 pounds & 6 pounds. To my 4 pound male. Sophia just went in to labor last night and. I had to have emergency. C-section. This morning. Lost 1 puppy. But saved the little girl. Sophia. Does not want any thing to do with baby dutches and I am worried. I have read after C - section they might not attend to her because of meds or the fact that she does not understand. That she gave birth. What do I do for her & baby. How do I fix this & if she don't take to baby girl. How do I make sure she lives. I don't want to loose her.

Sorry to hear you are having problems, not all births go as planned.
Sometimes it takes mom awhile to come around and take to the pups after a C-Section.
Take care and watch her until she come fully out from under of the anesthetic effects.

Done the mom have milk ?
If she does you may need to hold her still to allow the pup to nurse.

Also try to get your female to lick the pup by rubbing the pups bottom against her nose.
Just be careful that she doesn’t try to bit the pup.
Also to get her to lick the pup use just a drop of warm water or spit on the pups bottom area ( know it sound gross but it will cause the mom to lick) you can also use a drop of warm water or spit on the teat to get the pup to nurse.

If she doesn’t take to the pup you may have to hand feed the pup.
Keep the pup warm at all times and never feed a chilled pup.
Feed the pup in a natural position (belly down) with a bottle and make sure the hole is not to big to choke or aspirate the pup.
Best to use 1/2 goat milk to ½ distilled water.

Every 2 hours until the belly is plump but not so engorged that the pup may aspirate.

You may also need to use nutria drops if the pup is sluggish or to boost energy to nurse.

Will also add that if the mom does not pee and poo the pup you will need to.
Use a warm cotton ball to gentle rub the belly, genitals and anus areas after every feeding.
Plus very gentle rub and lightly pat the pups back (like burping a baby) to expel any air swallowed..

No she has no milk at this time & her c -section was 12 hours ago. She still wants nothing to do with the baby. I am very stressed. Taking care of mom & baby. Worried about both. Have not had much sleep. If I make sure baby eats & stays warm and pottys. Is there a good chance she will survive ?

Was the pups early ?
How much does the pup weigh ?

Yes, good chance to save the pup if it not early and of good weigh.

Some female are sore and don't want the pup to nurse but it's best if you can get the pup on the teat even if you have to hold the mom down to let it nurse, just talk softy to your girl as you do so. If the pups tummy seems plump then she is getting milk. Just make sure she doesn't try to bite her.
Some will breeders will muzzle the female to keep them from trying to bite the pups.

And you may have to switch between the bottle and nursing until the female takes to her.

I've had several C-Section and even if they don't seem to have milk most do, it's just very little at first. Getting the pup to nurse will help bring the milk in better.

I am pretty sure she was not early. I counted the babies would have come dec 24. But when I took Sophia to vet for x ray on dec 3 he said he could not see pups yet the bones he said. So he thought she wasn't 40 dys yet. And I am not sure what the baby weighs. I don't have scales. Sophia does not seem to want to bite. She just try's to get away fast. I have been. Wiping her bottom and she has pooped dark waxy looking the first time and now it's yellow. Not sure if she is peeing cause she poops a lot & I kinda get distracted by cleaning that up. Am I suppose to mix half water with her milk. Cause I have not yet. I didn't know. I was just going by the directions. On milk. I have just born milk and my husband went & got me. Goats milk. Should I mix some karo. In with it. I have a microwave heating pad in puppy bed and baby blanket over it & a blanket covering puppy bed to keep her warm. And I have puppy bed in bed between my husband & I. Which should be no problem cause Sophia & bubbles sleep with us too. I have my hand in the bed to let her feel me it seems to calm her more. And that way I also. Know what she is doing when I fall asleep. How long do I have to worry like this about both mommy and baby . How long before Sophia is out of the woods & I can give full attention to little one. Sorry so many questions. But I do thank you for your help & concern

Each mom is different some seem to be back on their feet within a day or 2 and some it might be a little longer.
Just watch for any redness around the site area, fever or your female not acting right.

Do you have one of the small food scale ?
You really need one so you can keep up with if the pup is gaining weight.
For the first couple weeks I weigh pups morning and night to see if everyone is gaining, if a pup does not gain then there is a problem.

I have never used the milk replacers as most feel they are more harmful then good and prefer using the goats milk.
½ goat milk / ½ distill water. ( I know some add raw egg yoke… I don’t)
A drop or 2 of karo will boost sugar level, I prefer using the nutri drop as they hit the system quickly.
I know some go by a guide on how much to feed but I just judge by the tummy being plump.
As long as the pup has a full belly, pee and poos, kept warm and gains it should do OK.
If the pup is fussy or cries a lot then there is a problem.

Your best bet is to get the mom to care for and nurse her, if she doesn’t she will lose her milk.
And you will need to feed the pup every 2 hours for the first week and then every 2-3 hours for the next week. By the 3 week you should be able to go about 4 hours in between feedings and you may need to start trying to wean to a puppy gruel around 4 weeks.

I know every breeder does things different but this is what I do if I need to supplement or hand feed pups.
