| Wow, 6 weeks is WAY too young to be away from the mother and I have to wonder about a breeder who allowed the pup to leave so young. You should have extensive genetic and health testing done before you even consider breeding that pup and being just another backyard breeder in it to make a buck. Dogs shouldn't be bred until they reach the 2 year age mark but technically he'll be ready to stud when he is around 6 months. Though I highly recommend you NOT breeding your pets.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Okay that boy will not be ready to "breed" until he has run the full gamit of health screenings and tests - the last of which will be at 2yrs old. Sexually male maturity in terms of readiness to breed may start as early as six months old. You will need, BAT screenings at 16 wks and a repeat at 6mths old. Thyroid function full screening at 15mths old LP evaluated - can be done early at 8wks repeated every 6mths until 2yrs old Hip OFA;d at 2yrs old PRA at 2yrs old (prior to breeding) Heart evaluation at 18mths old Temperament tested at 18mths old. Then finally the pre breeding screening tests. Brucellosis and at least a full blood panel done. And apart from all this, an evaluation of what if any excellent traits this young puppy might have to pass onto the future generation. This eval is usually done by showing your purebreed and by having experienced breeders and fanciers give you a non biased evaluation of your pup.

| He'll need to be AKC open or full registrarion, Health tested approved as breeding quality by 2 separate YTCA breeders and that will happen when he is fully matured after 1 year. You'll also need to know his 12 generation pedigree as many genetic issues don't "pop up" until 4 years Everything I said is ***in addition*** to what Gemy already posted in detail explaining the testing and ages of. Doing a health gene color dna is also reccomended now.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree with the others, don't breed your pets, leave breeding to those who take the time and study the breed and do health testing. Quote:

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | My friend, there are SO many people here who are willing to share their knowledge and truly help you learn. Please take advantage of this and, more importantly, be willing to open your mind fully - so that you hear them. My thoughts? You need to back wayyyyyyyyyyyyy up in the stage of learning you're currently at, and I mean that in the kindest way. The fact that you have a puppy at 6wks old is indicative at where you're currently at - and that's okay to be where you're at -- as long as you're willing to understand why we're all greatly concerned. Stick around and read, and take advantage of those who know more - believe me, they've a ton to share...I know, bc I too have learned from them .
