Puppies due on Sunday! :) So, I took my Tenley girl into the vet for her ultrasound about 10 days ago. He said everything was looking good and he could see that there were 3 puppies in there, maybe 4, but we would know for sure from the x-ray. Well... we had the x-ray today and there are SEVEN puppies!!! Oh my goodness, my head has been reeling all day!

Thank you Carmen! I knew I was in for some news when I heard "Holy COW!" come from the x-ray room. I think the calcium was the first thing that went through my head and I am glad I was already prepared "just in case". I have Oral Cal Plus and the Animed Di-Cal you suggested on hand. Thank you Amanda! I hope so too! Last edited by chamrock84; 11-20-2012 at 02:39 PM.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Holy Cow!! is right, girl your little girl has all my girls beat... one word on the Animed it worked wonderful for Delilah, I had a calcium reading pre whelping and one done during lactacting, and her calcium level never moved.. this thing is the best thing after slice bread.. I gave her half a teaspoon mixed with her scrambled egg every morning and another half a teaspoon before I put her to bed.. you might want to consider Fenugreek too , it helps with milk production, I had not used it but I had heard great reviews on my breeding groups.. hugs, |

How long is the whelping pudding good for? I'm just wondering how far in advance I should make it. I'm thinking she is not going to last until Sunday with all those babies in there! They are sure moving around! She is still eating and drinking, but her temp was 99.4 yesterday morning and then 98.7 last night and back up to 99.4 this morning. Called my vet to let him know what was going on.

I usually made the whelping pudding the first evening and let it set up overnight, served it the next day and the following day (usually gone by then anyways). I didn't like it sitting around longer than that. Tea's first litter was 6, then 4, then her final litter of 5 (she's spayed now). I also supplemented with other calcium rich foods like plain yogurt and 4% cottage cheese. I never had to give extra supplements, but each dog is different Wishing you a safe whelping and healthy, happy pups! Debbie (Tea', Katie & Paige)

Oh the waiting... Her temp dropped down to 97.4 for 2 hours and then went up to 98.4 and has stayed there. Nesting started last night and she only ate a couple bites of food this morning. Maybe she'll hold out for day 63 after all...
