| What is considered to big...? for breeding in male size? I get the idea that the smaller the male and the larger the female the better but what is too big in males? I had the notion to possibly breed Piper in the future but he's around 5-6 lbs. His dad was 5.5 lbs and he was used for breeding. I want to wait and see what his qualities are after he's a little older before I decide for sure but if his weight is already a negative factor then there is no point in even considering it. My vet says he's perfect but I'm not sure if he was just being kind. He said not to neuter him unless I was 100% certain because he said he was a "handsome little guy." That was before he topped the 5 lb mark. Need advice and opinions. Thanks so much!!

| Anything bigger than seven lbs or bigger than the specific female it is going to be breed with. I think. |

| The standard call for 7 pounds and under. Go take a look at the archives- the weight of the dog is only one thing that you should consider before using him or her for breeding. |

| stud My vet used to say that about my Yorkies when I took them in for spay/neutering sometimes. Then I would go over the dog point by point and show him why it was not perfect for breeding. I am alway curious as to why a pet owner wants a stud dog..if you have a clean, non-marking house pet, why chance ruining it? I do not focus on weight, I look at conformation and pedigree. Have a few reputable breeders look at him..go to a few shows and see what is breed quality..then you can make an informed decision. Best wishes Last edited by YorkieRose; 12-09-2005 at 04:57 AM. |
