Whelp Watch Well we are a week away from my 5 lb yorkie Roxy's due date but I have been taking her temperature and it is going down. Just took it at 9:50pm and it was 97.1. That is the lowest it has been. This morning at 9:30am it was 97.6. Yesterday it was around 98ish the whole day. Her mucus plug has been coming out a little at a time and her vulva is swollen. Also saw that her milk is in. It looks like her stomach is lower today when she walks too. Right now she is sitting next to me cleaning herself. She will clean herself then just stare at me for a while. Very restless. I don't know if this means she is going to soon but I will be keeping a very close watch on her.

Sounds like you are getting close. Good luck on an easy and uneventful whelping. Do you know how many pups to expect?

Thank you. I hope for a easy one too. We thinking 3 but sometimes when the babies move there looks like a 4th. We were going to get an x ray in a few days but she might have them before that. She went into her whelp box and dug around a little. But then followed me into the living room. I am wondering if I should confine her in there. Maybe I will just go sit with her in there. No panting though yet.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Pups are going to arrive a lot sooner than a week. I'd say sometime within the next 24 hours from that temp drop.

Nothing last night. I thought for sure she would wait until I was asleep. of course every time she moved last night I would look to see if she was panting or digging more. Took temp this morning and she was 98.1. That was after we took the kids to school and it is hot out side. For now she is resting next to me...

Nothing yet so we went to the vet. She said she had a temperature of 100.3. So I got a new thermometer. And took it at home and it was 96.6. And i just took at 8:40pm and it is 99.4. But she said that since she has her milk and has started digging that she will have them early. We took an X-ray and it said 4 puppies!!! I am so excited. Hasn't dug at all since I got back home. I attached a pic.

Thank for all the helpful posts. My lil lulu is great and pups are fat and strong. The way they look im not sure if the dog I though was the daddy The pups are all black brown gold cheeks and long tail the tails should be short, white chest and white tip paw?/? I love the black and white yorkies. But I thought the tails should be short. Anyway, I never want my dog to have a pups again. Its so scary and hard on the dog! Plus I will not beable to give puppies to homes I want to keep ALL the dogs they are so cute!

So I am just all confused with this temp thing. Just took it and it was 98.6 standing up and 99.5 laying down. So I don't know. The vet did it standing up. The lowest I got was 98.4 today at 1:10pm No nesting and no digging and she still goes after roast beef so I take it that tonight should be quiet. I have been ready the other nights but nothing, so I guess I should just relax. So who knows. Still staying home with her and she is staying real close to me. She keeps laying next to me and staring at me. Poor girl. Belly looks different shaped. Looks huge. I think I need to not be anxious. I am just nervous I am going to miss it somehow, or do something wrong.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | If you didn't have the thermometer inserted far enough it will affect the reading. It also doesnt matter if they are standing or sitting. And don't rely on whether she eats or not also. Mine do not skip meals. A sure sign of impending labor...panting for extended periods. Even before they start nesting.

ouch, I think I will leave the tails the way they were born. Lulu's temp went to 97.9 a week before she delievered. Then steady at 98.3. Then went up and she delivered at 99.9 I knew she was going to start labor when she tried digging a tunnel in the yard and grabed her baby toy and ran all over the place and was licking the toy baby like a real one. Most of the things I read on internet were helpful however most of it made me stress over it more because of her size and the temp thing. She also stood up to push out she didn't want any coverings around so I let her do what she wanted. I made a nice nesting area but she didn't want any sheets at first...I'm so excited to have an all black and white chest with paw tips white. fluffy puppy. Lulu is full yorkie but the pups are not. It was an accident, I believe meant to be. 1 looks yorkie the other is blonde ears already standing up. So cute.
