YorkieTalk Newbie! | is she going into labor?? help please!! hi everyone! i just have to say that i absolutely LOVE this website. i am the proud owner of a little (or not so little right now lol) 12 lb yorkie that i saved from abuse and neglect and she has become my second daughter. we (my husband and I) named her phoebe but have taken to calling her phoebe fox face, as she has an adorable little foxy face she is rambunctious, gives tons of kisses, and loves to cuddle. she is pregnant and due any day now, i'm just hoping everything goes ok. she tied with my jack russel mutt, he isn't full russell he has softer hair and is a little more muscular than a russell. and now i am hoping and praying she makes it through delivery. if she winds up having trouble i am immediately taking her to the vet for a c-section!!! i was wondering if all labor signs are the same for yorkies? she has had a temp of about 100.2-100.0 but it keeps fluctuating, and her little belly has been hard all day now. she won't eat much and drinks tons of water. she had loose stool the day before yesterday and some vomiting. are there any other things i should look out for? she hasn't started nesting yet, that i know of. though she is scratching at her puppy pillow every now and then. anyway any help would be very appreciated!!! i look forward to getting to know you fellow yorkie lovers!! and i called my vet today, he was out of town for a while. he said the c-section should only be 500 which i will willing pay over the 1,200 a crappy money grubbing vet asked for. so within this week or the next we should have puppies. i hope. also i will post pictures within this week, my camera has unfortunately run out of battery but i am getting more tomorrow!! |

| I'm going to ignore the fact that a 'rescue' pup got pregnant by your unneutered male dog...imo this is abuse & neglect also. Did she get an x-ray? U need to do research on whelping asap & get all the supplies ready. Best of luck to you & most of all to your poor pup.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | yes the labour signs are the same for Yorkies. But often times Yorkies do need help during the birthing process. You need to get an Xray done and a pelvic exam to see if these pups have a chance for a normal birth; if not Schedule a C section. Surely by now you do have your whelping box ready, along with all the supplies you need. The pups will need to be kept warm - all breed pups do. They can't regulate their body temperature at 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 days old. There are many threads on here about breeding and a breeding reference library; they are available for your perusal.

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | first of all how big is the dad? How many days since the tie? Have you had a ultra sound or a xray to see how many pups? If her stools are lose and she is throwing up she could become dehydrated very fast. I would see another vet if yours is out of town just to make sure things are okay. It sounds like you are willing to do what it takes to keep her safe. So take her to the vet to make sure she is fine. I would not mess with not its her life and she depends on you. Good luck and keep us posted. sending prayers all will be okay

| I hope she won't need a c-section, but if she does, please have her spayed...a good caring vet will suggest that it's the best for her. If she doesn't have a c-section, please have her spayed asap after her pups are weaned/ as vet suggests. I trust you will keep the male separated...Let her enjoy the rest of her life as a pampered pet.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | To be honest, I feel very worried for your girl. Based on your post and questions, I'm gathering that perhaps you're not comfortably prepared for a whelping. If that's the case, I can't imagine not taking her to the vet for this whelping - and having the support of those who have expertise. I mean, what if you lost her? Whelping can easily be life or death - for the Mom and the puppies. Think of what's most important, and let that be your guide. If I were in this position, I'd definitely have her at the vet. Please take care and keep us updated.

| I cannot offer any advice on the signs of labor. I agree with everyone above. Since you are inexperienced and are only paying $500 for the C-section (does that include spay either or please do it during the C-section it'll be so much easier on her and you) and again since you are getting bargain priced vet care then you shouldn't stress over having the pups whelped by the vet staff for the first few weeks. They have the experience and can help place the pups in reputable homes for you as many vets work hand in hand with rescues. Perhaps you should consider altering your male ASAP testicular cancer rates go up the longer he goes unaltered. You know most breeder spend years studying and learning under a mentor as well they alter their breeding dogs as they age to prevent common health issues that unaltered animals face. Can't wait to see those pics next time you update.

| I am a little surprised a rescue was adoptable without being spayed. But accidents do happen and I hope that you do use your vet to get through this. Honestly, if it was one of my girls I would seek the vet's help as I have no experience with this myself. I think having their assistance through this will be the best for your girl. And like the others said, please consider getting both your male and female fixed asap. Good luck.

| We don't adopt out to homes that have intact males or females...part of our policy...unless they have a medical reason (confirmed by vet) that they cannot be. We just had someone write to us about one of our fosters asking if he was neutered or not because she wanted to breed him with her female.... One time we had a female come into rescue that we were told was spayed.... and our vet thought she was too....well turned out she was not she went into heat into her new home, but there was no issue as the other pets in the home were.... so it can happen of course once it was safe we paid to have her spayed.... however we did tell the adoptive family that we had not spayed her but was told she was... but had no proof.... Is there any update???? How is she doing????
