| Urgent advice needed I don't post often and something happened to my mother's yorkie last night and I am needing desperate advice, I really hope someone can assist. My mother own 2 female yorkies and 1 male. About 6 weeks ago the one female gave birth to 5 puppies they all went well, growing up healthy, now the puppies are almost 6 weeks old and last night the other female decided to attack the puppies killing 3 of them by biting of their necks and injured the 4th puppy very badly. My heart is really sore about this and I am trying to get answers as to why did this female do something extreme like this? My mother gives all the dogs the same attention, have this happened to anyone before and what might be the cause of this? How do you tell the people who already chose puppies that their puppies are dead Hope to get some advice Regards Juanita |

| Sorry your mom had to deal with such a heartbreaking experience but you have to understand that dogs are animals and as such can some become aggressive towards each others pups. The other female may be the alpha female and seen the pups as a threat. In some species the dominate/ alpha female is the only one allow to mate and produce. If another female mates and has a litter, the dominate one will kill them. It is also not uncommon when a dominate female is in heat to attack another female and sometime kill her. . It’s better to keep females and their pups separated from each other unless you are right there to supervise any and all interaction between them. If your mom keep the female I would be a little concerned that this trait could be passed on to any offspring she produces. I’m sure that those who choose the pups will be heartbroken but it best to be honest and explain to them what happen. I hope the other pup will be ok. |

| Yorkiegirl, thank you so much for some info about it, you are right the female who did the attack work is the alpha female. My mother took the puppy to the vet their is some problems with the lung looks like a damaged lung from the attack, Vet do not think the puppy will make it, but oh my I really hope and pray for a miracle so that this little thing makes it. My mother did phone the new owners and you were right they are heartbroken!!!!!! The one who chose the little one which is still alive is crying so much. WIll keep you updated on what is happening |

| That is so bad i am so sorry..i would rehome the female that attacked or keep her away from the others at all times, she will most likely do it again and her next victim may be a grown dog..

| How terrible this has happen. I'm so very sorry. This is pack mentality for sure. I have a friend who bred Yorkies & Biewers, and she never let the pups around any of the other dogs. Her Biewer girl had a siezure and another Yorkie attacked and almost killed her. In the wild, this happens to get rid of any weak ones. These guys may be cute and cuddly, but they are animals with pack instinct's!

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Oh how heartbreaking!!. I certainly hope the last pup makes it. There are many details missing from you post, such as, did the other female show aggression before the litter, was this the "first time" of aggression, or also was this the first time the female was allowed into the room with the litter of pups? Irrespective the attacker female should Never be breed. Wrong and faulty temperament. Obviously if your Mom elects to keep both females, and she breeds the other again, total separation of females until the pups go to their homes.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | So sorry for your losses. Hope the last puppy survives. Whenever I have a litter of puppies, mom and her pups are isolated from the rest of the dogs in the house. When mom wants a break she can go out and take a break from her pups and go out side with the other dogs. Or she can go to another area of the house. None of the other dogs come into the puppy area for just the reasons you described. Other dogs, female and male cannot be trusted around the puppies, even the sire. The other female needs to be spayed and rehomed immediately in a home where she is the sole female. Good luck and let us know how the last puppy does. |

| Hi all, the pup did not make it, it passed away last week. My mother said she had learned a lesson on a very hard way, she will not allow any other dog close to any other puppies again in future. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | This is so sad, I am so sorry that you and your family had to experience this hardship. This was such a tragic and horrifying way for those pups to have pass on. I cant even imagine being in your shoes right now.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | So sorry about the loss of the litter. This is a hard lesson to learn and no one should have to learn it this way. I hope others remember this in the future. Isolate mama and her puppies from all the other dogs in the home. Mama will let you know when she needs a break and wants to play with the other dogs. Never leave puppies unsupervised. It only takes a minute for something tragic to happen. |
