| Female puppies I don't know if there is a scientific answer or just chance. I am just wondering are less female pupplies born in yorkshire terriers litters? It seems like more males are born than females. I have my heart set on a female. I already decided on a breeder but a want a little girl. I don't want to settle on a male because its just not what I want. I will be willing to wait for a girl. |

| The male determines the sex of the puppies so some males could throw more males than females or vice versa but in general I don't think more males are born. However females are in more demand so you could probably find a male puppy easier than a female as they aren't as high in demand so it may make it seem like there are more males than females. My Destiny had an equal amount of male and female pups. Trixie was the same way. Harmony had one litter that was just two girls, so no males for her. So females out numbered the males in my case. I know a couple breeders that are the same way, more females than males.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | I don't think there is any rhyme or reason on the amount of female vs male Yorkie puppies born. I've heard that if you breed early in the cycle you might have a better chance for girls, but don't know that I believe (or have seen) that to be true. It's got more to do with genetics and/or what runs in the lines of the dogs you breed.

| Thanks for your responses. I am anxious to get our yorkie furgirl but should one not be available in this litter, I will wait. I will just pray that a girl be available from this breeder soon. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I had the same mates who had four litters together. The first three litters were four pups 3g and 1b, the fourth litter five pups in all and was 3b and 2g. I was very surprised by the fifth pup and the reverse of sex of the pups as well.

| Actually there is a very scientific answer to your question. The stud or the male is who determine the sex as he carries the X and Y chromosome. Research about the X and Y and who is faster and has more endurance and how the sex chromosomes play a roll in the way the sperm survives. You will find your answer . Also make sure you read about the age and the production of more Y and More X chromosome in a specific Stud dog. It is a very long answer to place here and i believe it is nice if you go to the scientific answer. Not a rule, but younger studs will have greater chance of producing more males than older studs. Also the mating and ovulation dates can help on the process as well. Y chromosomes swim faster, X chromosomes have more endurance! Good luck in your "home work" . XOXO

| Females are harder to come by but I would encourage you to spend some time with the male puppies anyway. Most people think they want a female but the males are typically sweeter and make excellent pets. I always encourage people to interact with puppies to see which one fits them best, rather than chosing by sex. Good luck in finding your new baby! |

| Thanks KazzyK810. I don't have anything against male dogs in fact I have owned males dogs in the past. My personal preferences are females and it's not because I think they are sweeter or more loving. My personality just fits better with female pups. Owning a pet is longtime comittment and that's why I will wait. I don't want to have any remorse or regret. Patience is the key and I am not going to rush into selecting a puppy. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Good for you about not rushing. And I do know what you feel about males/females etc. With many different breeds over the years, then and now, I have always bonded deeper and better with the male dogs I have owned. How-ever I have determined for me, the males more frequently carry and exhibit the personality traits that most appeal to me.
