| Can this be hereditary ? PLEASE HELP I'm looking to buy another yorkie & there is this one in particular that I am looking to get , but the father of the pup has leather ears, I've both heard & read about this controversial subject on the internet, but nobody seems to have a real & actual answer as to what it is. & I'm just wondering if leather ears can be something hereditary ? any information on the subject would really be greatly appreciated

| I don't know if it is hereditary or not but my Sammy had it once (the groomer brought it to my attention) and I got rid of it by applying Lotrimin cream (for people with athletes foot) and it never came back. |

| I don't think it's hereditary, as leather ear is a fungal infection. I'm not a breeder or expert, though, just my humble opinion/common sense

| Leather ear isn't hereditary in my opinion. I have always found that I see it when the yorkie is in a cold environment ie...the house too cold, in a dog room with the a/c turned down really low. If you keep your home comfortable cool wise and not "cold" you won't see leather ear. My dogs have access to sunshine, going outside on warm days and in the winter my house is kept at a comfortable heat temp as to not get too cold. It's my personal opinion and I've seen a yorkie get leather ear from it being too cold in their environment. Catching it early will stop it but once your yorkie gets it will be hard to grow back a lot of hair in my experience it with it. Radar "almost" got it but I caught it in time and it never fully developed full blown leather ear. I hope this helps! Donna |

| Leather ear is a fungal infection so I would have no issues on buying a pup if a parent had it. It is pretty easy to treat too
