| Water Broke. . . But No Puppies! 2 Hours. . . Should I be worried? Hi everyone, I have been searching on google for some answers to this question and came across your forums. . . Unfortunately so far I have not been able to find a definitive answer, hopefully one of you can help me out! My yorkie's water broke almost 2 hours ago now. . . Immiedietely after the water broke she laid right down and has been just taking it easy (she has been getting up and moving from place to place but not looking aggitated). . . She has been panting and breathing heavy but not pushing. . . If I didn't know any better I wouldn't even think she was in labor right now. Given that it has been 2 hours since she passed the water sack, I am beginning to wonder if I should be worried about her and the puppies. Is this normal?? How much longer should I wait before getting her to the vet? If anyone could help me, that would be SO appreciated. I just want a little piece of mind that what's going on is normal and I don't need to be stressing out! Thanks! |

| She is sleeping right now and I can feel the babies kicking around in her belly. She is having mild contractions but since she passed the water sack, nothing! |

| Best if you take her to emergency. You don't want to risk anything. Good luck.

| Always best to let a vet assess her if you're unsure. The water may break several hours before delivery, however. One of the critical things to watch out for is a greenish black discharge...the sign of placental separation. The pups must come once that happens. I know the OP is gone to the ER, but posted just to answer the question.

| Hi everyone, Thanks so much again for your replies. . . I thought I should drop in and update given that it seems people rarely ever update you guys after they ask their questions!! We spoke with the vet and she said that right now there is nothing to be concerned about. She said that since it is her first litter and since there are not many puppies in the litter, she thinks it is just a matter of there not being enough pressure to force them out. She suggested that we leave it a bit and bring her in within another hour if there is still nothing. Harley is up now and seems to be contracting more but again not majorly pushing at all. . . At one point there was a little bubble starting to make it's way out but it seems to have gone back inside now. . . She is not stressing or straining herself and other than breathing heavy, nothing is going on. |
