| help what do i do ok friends i need some help not menatally yet.lol. ok yesterday i recieved sampsons pedigree and it shows that his owner had done some inbreeding. i dont know what to do now. i know nothing about inbreeding i thought it was bad to inbreed. well i love sampson and im not giving him up! i called the breeder yesterday and she made it sound all peachie.she said she tought she told me that i said i wouldnt have bought him if i knew he was inbred.she went on and on how careful she was when she had inbred sampsons mother with sampsons father .sampsons father is the father of his mother so that technically makes the mother his sister. i dont know but i was going to breed my pair in the future. should i still breed him? is an inbred dog no good? i wanted to see if we will produce good breed standard puppies later. if i will endager that i dont want to use him for breeding then. funny when i named him sampson it was because he was the spitting image of his father now i know why. sampson did turn out perfect! no defects or sickness so far. i know the vet the breeder goes to and they havent seen any defects or sickness in any of her previous litters. i just feel like ive been scammed in some way. i can go through more. i just have a feeling sampson didnt come from a very good place. my main concern right now is that he will be normal and his babies will be normal to. i just cant believe this. akc should be able to give this information to you before you purchase a puppy. i just hope sampson isnt going to fall apart! please help with some info on this. |

Mother's can be bred to sons and fathers can be bred to their daughters. Brothers and sisters should never be bred same as cousins.(I've heard on the cousins). But now days, there really is no reasons for inbreeding. Back in the day, inbreeding was done to get smaller stock. JMO

Donating YT 14K Club Member | so, father was bred back to daughter and produced Sampson? I'm just trying to get it straight! It can get confusing at times.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Also, with inbreeding, it can bring out your strongest qualities or weakest qualities. If 2 related dogs are inbred, and they have more weaker qualities than strong ones or they both are carryine recessive genes, the breeding can be very bad. JMO There are many more seasoned breeders here that will be on later that will better answer your questions and give you better insight on this.

| Check and see if there are any kennel clubs close to you. If so there might be a member who raises yorkies. You can take your boy and his pedigree to this show breeder and have them do a evaluation of your boy. Be prepared this person may things that you may not want to hear about your boy's qaulity. They may say wonderful things. Be prepared to ask questions when they explain things to you about what they do and do not like about your boy. Take this evaluation in hand and think about it before you decide to offer your boy for stud or use him yourself. Not every male or female is of the quality that should be bred according to our breed standard. You must decide how closely your guy falls into the standard. Kathy |

| From the avatar pic he looks to be down-eared which would eliminate him for me without having to consider the other problems. Maybe I'm not seeing it right? |

to a yorkshire terrier and they expect the buyer to do their homework and study the standard. That being said, there is no such thing as a perfect dog but then again there are definite faults that you would not want to reproduce. Take any harsh comments as a learning experience because you want people to be honest I would say get out to as many shows as you can to actually see first hand what the standard looks like or close to it anyway and then work towards that if not with this dog possibly another. I am not a breeder but I feel strongly that a breeder should be as ethical as possible. Go to the www.ytca.org and see what breeders are doing there. Good Luck

| agree with sylvan If you have never attended a show before , you cannot take your dog. I guess that goes without saying but some people try. You can get a list of shows at www.infodog.com also I do agree that the dog ears would not be a good start.

| his ears were up a couple times after they were shaved but being inexpieranced i didnt know at the time that you had to keep them shaved or that i can tape them or massage them to get them to go up . i dont know if it even matters cause there clearly not standing now.my female the same thing her ears are down too. i figured that was my fault cause both sets of parents ears are standing. i will try that link and see if there is a show near by. as far as a reputable breeder around here i dont even know where to start i thought i purchased my dogs from good breeders but i have a strong feeling i was wrong. i will work on it any other suggestions will still be useful so keep them coming. is there any reputable breeders on this site that i can send pics to maybe that will give me a better start i can get his pedigree to whoever this person might be. thank everyone that is trying to help.and i cant take insulting words if given my feelings dont hurt easily and im trying to breed better yorkies so honesty is the best. |
