Animal Smiley 019 puppy playpen?

I'm going to bringing my little girl home in about 3wks...she will be 8wks old. What do you breeders use to hold your puppies in when they are tiny? I was looking at playpens but they are very expensive and I'm only going to need it for a little while (I'm guessing a few weeks). Any tips would be great! Thanks

Do you have a small room maybe a laundry room where you can put up a gate?

Yes, but won't the puppy get behind the washer and dryer? I don't have any idea how big she is going to be at 8wks...when I took bailey home he was 15wks. She was a little over 2oz when she was born.

We always gate a room off for the pups so that they are still close to the family, when they are not running under foot. You could always place card board barriers around backs of the washer and dryer. Just a thought. Good luck with your new baby!

Walmart sells a Junior Playpen for about 35.00. It's a good size and perfect for puppies - I have one that has never been used - well - maybe for about 4 hours till Cheri screamed and ended up in bed with me - but it was the best price I saw out there when I was looking a year ago.

Logan loves his playpen. I got it at Target for $50 at the time I thought it was a lot considering we also had a cage, but I bought it anyway. The original setup was that Logan would be in the playpen during the day and in the crate during the night. Well about a month ago logan decided he didn't like his crate so we tried putting him in the playpen at night too and he loves it. He's now been using his playpen for 6 months and I don't see him not using it anytime soon. He learned how to jump out when he was 12 weeks old but we fixed that problem by stretching a fitted crib sheet over the top.
No problems since.

I always suggest the Xpen. You can actually make one for around $30. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy the white space saver closet shelving. I bought a 12 foot long panel that is 18 inches high. I had it cut (they cut it for me at the store) into 3, 4 foot sections connect them with the zip ties and vioala. You can buy smaller panels to make a lid for the top. This is the less expensive way to safely confine your puppy while giving them room to potty, play, eat, and sleep. I lay a vinyl table cloth to prevent and leaks.

Here's a pic of mine in my puppy room.
Good luck!

ceeby was eight weeks and nine ounces when i got him. I used a playpen two days. that's how long it took him to gnaw a hole in it and escape. which could have been very dangerous because he could have gotten hung.

Cali has been in a dog playpen which has a zippered end like a crate but no top. She was 9 weeeks old when i got her and she has slept in there until the last 4 days, I put her in my bed. She still goes in the playpen when I'm not home or she will go in and take a nap on her own with the door open. I also have her wee wee pad in there and she hops into to do her business. She almost never has accidents and will hop down during the night, i have stairs by the bed, to use the pads a couple of times.

Do you have a pic of your set up? I would like to see it b/c I'm having a hard time picturing it.

Vioala is just an expression, like "and there ya go". It sounds like vwa-lah, you have probably heard it, it just looks different written out.
