| Question about excess puppy skin (scruff) on back I posted a question about this in general chat but was recommended to ask on here. My puppy Totoro is 15 weeks old and has scruff on his neck but on his back as well. I've attached some photos of what I can actually grab, it's about 2 thumbs worth of skin (1.5 inch from body) I am wondering if anyone else has felt/seen this in their puppy? Is it something puppies will grow into, is this abnormal? Or will he still have excess skin on his back in his adult years?

| If the vet thinks his weight is normal for his age, I would say all is well. If he is bony, then he needs to gain...if his skin does nto pop back in place fast, it means he is dehydrated..otherwise if he is healthy, eats, plays etc...he is fine. My Doxie pups used to have enough extra skin for another puppy at that age... |

| Well when I went to see my vet he said he was sort of large for a yorkie (12 weeks 1.7 kg or 3.75 lbs) But that he was healthy and fine. I've had no problems with him, eats well, potties fine, happy and playful and his skin does pop right back into place when I let go. I was just wondering if it would be something he'd grow into or not and the vet didn't mention anything when he checked him out but I'll ask him next visit in 2 weeks. I don't know if my vet would know though... I asked how big Totoro might get and he said "Oh, shouldn't be more than 20 lbs" then I told him he's a yorkie and he seemed a bit surprised because he usually sees teeny tiny ones.. then he says "Yeah he probably won't be 20 lbs" so I don't know how well informed he is..

| I don't know if he's a quack, but I would agree with Rachel that you might need a new vet . . . perhaps one that knows something about Yorkies! My Nicco weighed 3lbs 13oz at 12 weeks and now tips the scales at over 10 pounds (he is 4 years old). Conversely, my daughter's Yorkie weighed about 3 pounds at 12 weeks and is still under 5 pounds - she just turned two. They all grow at different rates so you might be surprised at his adult weight.
