No Longer a Member | I didn't think there was a difference, other than you'll normally find the yorkies tails un-docked in Europe, unless you are purchasing a puppy specifically for showing. Otherwise, I'm really unsure...? |

| Yorkies in Europe have full tails and and their dewclaws are not removed...I believe European yorkies are bigger in size in the ring. I have 2 yorkies from Hungary,Europe. One is much bigger in size.

| IMO..and JMO...Many Europeans bred into or buy from US breeders to improve structure...they can grow wonderful coats, but what is under the coat is more important.... A dog that has sound structure, moves correctly, level top line etc..JMO... |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Over here they have full tails because it is now against the law to dock tails (unless there is a medical reason) and they do not have their dew claws removed. It seems to me that US yorkies seem to be smaller then ours, but then you do get the odd tiny one here too. I have noticed that many yorkies over here have a longer or more pointy nose, but I dont know if that is true its just something I noticed.

| It is pity that some judges still focus on the coat of yorkies in some show ring.

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | I have noticed yorkies here in the UK seem to have a longer/more pointy nose then yorkies in the US.

| Is there a different breed standard for American (akc) and European? I have heard the unofficial observation that American's have smaller Yorkies, I just thought it was "shudder" THE MARKET that drove the breeding of smaller yorkies, is that true in European and Asian countries? So... if the show standards are the same it would be only "pets" that would be different? Also, I have seen advertising for "baby doll" yorkies which I think refers to the shorter noses.. again not standards but what people want in their pet. Please note... I don't agree with breeding to a "fad" just stating observations. I am sure my question shows my lack of knowledge about the kennel clubs and such, but I am wondering too.

I think some of the shorter noses I have seen may well be because some breeders are trying to get the 'baby doll' face and sometimes advertise a short nose. Also many breeders try for the tinies which may be why many are smaller. Most yorkies I have seen here on YT have the same nose as the yorkies here in the UK but when you look at many breeder websites (usually not good breeders) they all seem to have really short noses. Yorkies are not as popular in the UK as they seem to be in the US which is why I think there is a larger market for them over there, and when you get the larger market you will always get people wanting the smallest yorkie/designer dog or whatever. We get it over here too but more with Chi's and Pug's.

| The American Yorkies have a solid gold head, where as the European Yorkies have Black on their heads much like Yorkie Rose's avatar. Your Yorkie is beautiful Yorkie Rose. |
