| Whelping box? How can I get my yorkie use to her whelping box? She does not want to go into it. I have tried coaxing her with treats and she is apprehensive. Help... |

| It's not unusual for a Yorkie to not be ready for her whelping bed - especially a first time mom who has never used one before. Just be gentle and keep introducing her to it. You could use an exercise pen and place around the whelping box, keep her in the pen starting an hour a day and gradually increasing the time until she is sleeping in the whelping box. The exercise pen should be in a quiet area away from any hustle & bustle. I would have it in my bedroom & have a blanket over the top and side of the pen so make it dark, quiet, & secure. When the puppies are born she will use the box. Good luck, Teresa |

| When the pups are born she will use it. It was the cutest thing when my cat was ready to have her kittens she was looking for a place so I followed her behind the couch and I put a box with a blanket in it behind there and she jumped in and started purring real loud. Just keep taking her to the box they know thats where they are supposed to go

She'll definitely use it once the puppies are born. Mine was so attached to me, her crate is right next to my bed. Prefers to never leave my side. After the pups were born, she "moved out" - right to her whelping box inside a very large cage/crate - granted in the corner of the bedroom, but she "left" me for the care of her pups (to which I was very thankful) - she moved back in around 6 weeks post whelp! lol Though we tried to introduce it to her while she was pg, she had no interest, maybe it helped when she went into labor we put her in the whelping box and that's where she had the pups. I did have concerns that she was so attached to me/humans and being her first litter she might not care for her pups properly...as it turned out she was a perfect mama, did everything like a very experienced mama and the first 4 weeks all she cared about was being with her pups...forget me! I was so grateful.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I give my girls there special feedings inside the whelping box... That seems to do the job. Make sure she has plenty of nesting materials ahead of time that may get her interested in sticking around and checking thing out.
