| One litter before spay? Hi everyone! I need some advice re the spaying of my babies, Peanut & Noodle... They are 11 months old and weigh 3.1lb and 3.9lb (which we thought was regular but now seems pretty small reading the other forum posts?) We were planning on letting them each have one litter before spaying but now I'm not sure... I've heard that it's 'good' for female dogs to have a litter before spaying - is there any basis to this or pure old wives tale? My concern is that they might be too small ~ what would be best for them? |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! Your girls are both very small- too small to breed. With yorkies this small, you risk serious and expensive complications including death to both mom and babies during birth. There is no benefit to your babies have a litter- if you spay them now you will reduce future risk of mammary cancer as well. Spay your little girls and enjoy them. We would love to see photos... I am sure they are adorable

Donating YT 10K Club Member | There is no basis for breeding one litter and your dogs are entirely too small.

| I'm so glad you came onto YT and realized that your dogs are too small to breed. Yes, you are right-- this is an old wives tale and is not correct. In fact spaying your girls before a heat is healthier for them. Please get them both fixed and don't breed them. Teresa |

| Absolutely unequivocally NO. Why? From what you say you are not a breeder. These are your pets and it would be outlandishly foolish to risk their lives. Labor is hard work and not fun at all. Losing puppies is a very reasonable probability and is also not in the fun category. There are so many reasons why breeding them would be a terrible idea. |

| Thank you all so much for your valuable input! I am really glad that I found this forum for advice or we might have made a very foolish mistake Will certainly not be subjecting my babies to any funny business but get them spayed right away! |
