Female advice needed I have a (BIG) boy, he is 9lbs. I want to get a female yorkie, so I can breed (and so my boy's got company) What weight would you recommend her to be? I know if she's too small, its way too risky.

Your boy is a good bit over the standard (not to exceed 7 lbs). So chances are, any girl you breed to him would be as well. You would be breeding dogs that are considerably off standard-- NOT recommended. The size of a female alone would not decrease the "risk" factors. There are lots and lots of factors that make breeding "risky." I would suggest that you just be happy with the loving dog that I'm sure your boy is and enjoy him, and any companion you decide to add as PETS. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 11-29-2010 at 10:38 AM.

You would want to get a female in the 10 to 12 pound range...but breeding Yorkies in this size range will produce even larger Yorkies..so expect 12 to 14 pounders..basically doubt the standard....

It is best not to breed him to a bitch. As mentioned earlier, size is not the only issue here. As far as I know, Yorkies standard weight range is between 4 and 7 pounds. It is hard to find a female bigger than your male. Besides, you may have to find a good line to breed. So just enjoy your little boy, have him neutered and love him all you can
