| Question to Breeders about puppy deposits A question for our well seasoned breeders here! I was wondering how the breeders on here handle recieving deposits on a pup they are adopting from out of state. By this I mean what is the safest manner to approach this in where it is both safe for the buyer & the breeder to ensure that no one gets scammed. I understand how both parties would be concerned about getting scammed, and how a substantial deposit is necessary to ensure the seriousness of the adoption, but how do we go about it in a safe manner? Just a question I had in mind as I'm researching to get my 2nd furbaby next year sometime

this ensures the buyer is serious, cash final payment if local, or a check 10 days prior to shipping is acceptable to me. No one has ever complained about the size of the deposit. I accept checks but dont release the kids or ship until the checks have cleared. I dont accept cashiers checks unless I know the person sending it nor do I use paypal or credit card. hope this helps

| What if you are the buyer working with a breeder that you do not know well? How would one go about protecting themselves from being scammed? I'm extremely wary for example of placing a deposit on a breeder on Puppyfind for example.

| My two cents As a breeder, I require $500 deposit. I take personal check or money order. The balalnce must be paid in full by cash at time of pick up. I like the traditional methods of payment. As a buyer, I call the BBB to make sure there aren't any complaints, Look up the AKC banned list of breeders, I do a search google and yahoo for the name to see if there are complaints lingering. I also ask for a reference from their vet. I perfer to pay with my Debit Card (MC) through paypal or give the number over the phone because you can dispute it if the deal goes sour. I acutally had a situation where I did that and never received the puppy. I was able to dispute the transaction and received a full refund. Good luck, Irene Last edited by YorkieRini; 11-04-2005 at 07:29 AM. Reason: Type-O |

| I just saw that this thread was addressed to the seasoned breeders here and I wanted to apologize as I am not a breeder. I did post about Puppy Escrows because I think they are a good thing, but I didn't mean to jump in on this like that. |
