| Breeding female My Brandi had pups 2 years ago. Since then, I have bred her with the same stud 5 times. She has not produced any puppies. I bred her from the first day she accepted the male till the last day she would not accept the male anymore. The stud is still producing puppies. Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I could do or what the problem with Brandi could be???? Thanks for your help. |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Has she seen a vet? maybe a vet can tell you if there is a reason why she isnt producing puppies. Personally if she isnt producing puppies I wouldnt push her into that situation anymore, but thats just my opinion. I know nothing about breeding so hopefully a member with experience can help you, good luck.

| Echoing the advice to "SEE A VET." She should have a check up anyway prior to breeding. You wrote: " She has not produced any puppies. I bred her from the first day she accepted the male till the last day she would not accept the male anymore." That is really not as suggested by most experienced breeders. Do you have a mentor? An experienced breeder to offer suggestions? I think they should skip a day between ties. Days 7 - 13 are the fertile days, of course when the female will accept the male usually tells that story. But try keeping them apart at least every other day. Is the stud breeding with any other dog during the same period? They can get low sperm counts from too much breeding. But most of all -- take your girl to the vet for a check up.

| According to your previous post--from teh first litter she had, it appears--your female is only 3.9 lbs? That is way too small for her to be bred! Also, looks like last time you got help and advice during the pregnancy from the YT breeder you got your dog from? Perhaps she would be willing to help you out again...have you contacter her? (I'm really a bit baffled as to why a small female would be placed w/ full registration into this kind of siutation--that certainly does not speak well for the breeder. I'm really hoping there are some missing pieces to the puzzle here.) For starters, you are breeding her too many days. Breeding once per day, 2-3 days when she is furtile is all that you really need to do. Anything more is potentially harmful and not likely to take due to the male's lowered sperm count. I would certainly see a vet and find a mentor. Most likely, it would be in this girl's best interest to be retired as a breeder. In any event, it does not seem like you are fully prepared with extensive knowledge on the overall breeding process. I would suggest taking the time to work with someone, researching, and then look at the aspect of breeding. |

| I am going to assume that if she hasn't taken the last 5 times she's telling you she doesn't need another litter. I would for sure take that as a major sign. If she's a small bitch under 5 pounds she shouldn't be bred to begin with. Has health tests been done on the bitch? ie...complete blood panel, bile acid tests, heart tests, and hips and knees? Again, I would take it as a sign she doesn't need another litter and I'd spay her and love her as a loving pet Of course this is what I would do even if she were of breeding size and didn't conceive after the 2nd time. I wouldn't have bred her under 5 pounds either. Donna |

She's not even big enough to getting pregnant. I know you don't want to hear this. Has anyone talked to you about this in the past? You are lucky she didn't die when you bred her before. I'd have her in the vet's office for a full blood panel and a spay. | |

After five breedings, don't you think nature is trying to tell you something? I would have had my bitch into the vets after the second failed attempt. Two years ago she had pups, you bred her 5 times? That is your bitch came in heat 5 times in two years? Every five months? 2 Heats a year ummm Spay her and do all the health tests as there maybe an underlying health problem with her.

| The OP is having computer problems and has been trying to post a correction. The girl now weighs 4.14 and she wanted to correct the 5 times down to 3 times. She is going to take everyone's advice and spay her. She keeps saying she posted a correction but we can't find it. She is also trying to close this thread. She thanks you for your advice. | Breeding Brandi Need to set the record straight re Brandi. Mistake - in the last two years she was bred 3 times (not 5) and no puppies. Also, yes she had been checked out by vet prior to each breeding. Last time the vet suggested that I breed from the time she accepts male till she does not accept male anymore. Then I am to bring Brandi to vet to have a progestrone level test. If the test is high (near 10), then she is most likely pregnant. If the level is low, she is not pregnant. Brandi is 4.14 now. But like you all suggested, I will not try to breed her again. She is a joy to us and we are most thankful that we purchased her. |
