| bald spot on skin My poor baby has had a quarter sized bald spot on his right hip since he had his teeth cleaned about 6 months ago. There is no rash. no redness, no crusting, no fleas, no scratching or biting. No known cause. I have tried giving it time to resolve and no new hairgrowth still, but has not gotten any larger either. There are no new spots. It is literally unchanged. Anyone have any idea? I plan on taking him to the vet, but I know it is not fungal and he does not have the mange. None of my other babies have it. It just showed up between baths and did not get worse or better. He has never had a wound or crusty skin or anything wrong with him. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

| He may have been given an injection of some sort when he had his teeth done..sounds like a reaction to a vaccine etc...some times a bald spot appears..ususally around the shoulder blade area..but vets use the hip if they want it into the muscle..ask the vet. |

| My boy had the same thing happen. After 3 years of wondering I finally figured it out. His first rabies shot was a 3 year one. It was too much for his little body. He should of been given a 1 year first and then a 3 year. The bald spot will go away give it time (I mean a LONG TIME) but it will go away. The hair may grow back darker almost or maybe black and then eventually start changing to his normal color. |

| rabies vaccine was my first guess, but I waited 6 months and still no hair coming in. He did get his rabies vaccine a couple weeks before his teeth cleaned- i did not notice it until the bath after his teeth cleaning. any idea how long it will take to grow back or will it ever grow back? Any other ideas what it might be? |

| Most likely it will never regrow hair...the spot is slick, smooth, correct? This reaction is not common, but happens...the vaccine killed the hair follicules. |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | There is no difference in the amount of vaccine given between a 1 year rabies shot and a 3 year rabies shot. Same doseage. |

| Our babies have the same bald spot after teeth cleaning and it is by the shoulder blade i asked the vet and he said it happens about 80 percent of the time they have a reaction to the injections and the hair will never grow back it has been about 1 1/2 years and their still bald in that spot.
