| I am Stumped~~Looking for Answers !!!! Okay, I have one little female that I am very concerned about and looking to see if anyone has experience this before. This is a new one on me!!!! When she is feeding she has milk bubbling out of her nose. This only happens when she eats to fast. I have had to do supplemental feedings and when I feed her real slow this doesn't happen. I had her checked for a cleft and the vet said she sees nothing. Since, she is only 3 ounces and is dehydrated she just wanted to let nature run its course. But I am real concerned if she does make it will this be a life long problem??? So just wondering if any one can shead some light on this problem for me....

| Um...not to panick you, but it is possible that the pup has cleft palate? I would definately let the vet check her out ASAP. If that is the case, she could get an infection VERY easily. Not to say it couldn't be something else, just nothing I've heard of. Good Luck! Edit: Oops...I see you already crossed that path...sorry, I didn't read all the way through very well. |

| are you supplimenting with a bottle or a syringe sometimes air from either can cause it, or as you said eating too fast. If she is doing this while on a teat is where I would be concerned and perhaps get another vets opinion. I dont tube feed but I believe Pat does, you may want to talk to her or your vet about it. Myself I think its too risky, but others use it faithfully. I hope your little one makes it and thrives! good luck keep us posted

The feedings I do is with a syringe, just on the edge of her mouth so I know she is swallowing on her own and nothing is going into her lungs, cause I know I would be putting her at risk for pnemonia. But with the slow process of syringe feeding nothing comes out of her nose.

| Since you had them checked for CP, I was curious to know what was going on so I did a quick search. There were 2 sites I ran across that said it could also be a sign that the pup is overeating (nursing) or eating to quickly. |

| Thank-you Bama for researching into this for me. That is so sweet for you to do for me and my little one. I called my old vet in Michigan (specializes in small animals) Dr. Bader, he referred to what is happening a gready eater. Yes, eating to fast and that she doesn't have good swallowing reflexes yet. This will improve in about a week or so if all goes well. Meaning I could still lose her. That I should keep her on mom and up her supplemental feeding as she hasn't gained or lost weight. And this should help her dehydration as well. (which by the way has improved some over the last couple of days. ) Dr. Bader also told me that this happens in all breeds of dogs, so it is not a yorkie thing and it happens, but not real common.... So please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and I will keep everyone posted...Hopefully with continued good news.

| The site I found it on was for bulldogs, but it sounded like an 'eating' thing, not a 'Yorkie' thing. I was interested myself being as we have some little ones at home right now too. Well, it sounds better than what the alternative could have been. It at least sounds like something that can be controlled and managed. Good Luck and give them babies lots of kissies for me and Trixie. |

| Sue, I hope that the little one is just a little piggy! I'm sure that with you feeding and keeping an eye on her she will gain some weight and in time get that swallow reflex to go as fast as her little mouth wants to suck! Will keep you both in my prayers...

| Let me weigh in on this- I raised Great Danes for 30 years before I "got smart" and now have the loves of my life. Any way it was not uncommon for a greedy pup or a small one( don't know why the small one ) to have this bubbling back syndrome.. They just don't swallow fast enough at first and I pray that this is the problem with your baby. If it is ,it will get over it in about a week to 10 days. In the meantime just watch her, as if you aren't. haha I know this doesn't help but I hope it will help you to stay calm knowing it happens lots in the big breeds and I don't recall ever losing a baby due to that particular problem.

| With a litter of Boxer puppies we had the runt that did the same thing. we didnt know what the problem was either and guessed it to just be a piggy. She turned out a strong litter fighter . we did have a problem with her getting cold on us two times. but we warmed her and she was the toughest of all of them. |
