I have visited and enjoyed your lovely web site and overall approve your mission, but you exclude breeders of traditional color Yorkies. YTCEHB wants to welcome ALL Yorkshire Terrier and Biewer Terrier breeders without regard to coat color whatsoever.
I suppose the important message here is for breeders to get involved in some formal way with a group of people who sincerely desire to do the right thing by the breed, and very important to publicly pledge to uphold a code of ethics.

Is this just a site to join and post puppies for sale? Don't get me wrong I think health & improving the breed should always be the priority. But it looks to me like it's is just a list of breeders one could go to for a puppy.

After looking at the site, was wandering what is the goals? It looks like a place for breeders to sell puppies. How is a breeder chosen to join? Is their any research done on the breeder?

Your code of ethics excludes color.....so who determines what is excluded and what isn't?

No where does it exclude traditionals. Many of us have them. No color is excluded.

For the rest of you, there is no way to regulate ethics. Even the YTCA cannot do that.

All that one can do is to encourge people to do the right thing.

I understand that, but when I visited the site, there wasn't much educating going on, lots of breeder pages!

I wasn't referring to that site. Just commenting in general.

The education aspect is very important. It is surprising, how many new breeders don't even realize there is an ethical side to breeding.

Doing the "right" thing is not always cost effective in the short run, but it pays off in the long run.

YTCEHB is new, created about a year ago by Marsha Pressley who felt there was a need for an organization for breeders who may not fit into YTCA but who liked the idea of a code of ethics and a place to showcase their dogs. As membership grows and we can recruit volunteers to help organize things we would love to put together a monthly newsletter and offer educational programming. This is ABSOLUTELY NOT a place where just anybody can get on and sell puppies. Please bear in mind the good intentions rather than the web site design details. Marsha did all the work herself with no help and included some things we ultimately will not want and omitted others we will implement. As for membership, there is an informal screening process at this time and if you read all the information on the site you will see that when we have sufficient membership we will have a committee type system for accrediting breeders, and that process will include site visits. In the meantime, we're on the honor system. If you see someone listed who you feel shouldn't be, let us know and we will discreetly investigate.

I personally think the idea of YTCEHB is a great idea!

I have recently been considering where I fall as a breeder. I'm not seasoned enough to even think about YTCA, or to consider showing. Yet I don't want to be left out there to be lumped in with other breeders who may or may not be caring breeders.

With so many raids going on recently, there is concern that AKC registration is not enough to prove your ethics as a breeder.

I have really been struggling with this feeling of not knowing where I belong. There is a large group of breeders (not large enough) that are ethical as well as up hold AKC standards that may never be YTCA or Show breeders. Yet these breeders still give us beautiful pets to love raised under foot in loving homes.

These breeders should be recognized.

Belonging to a club doesn't prove one's ethics. You either have them or you don't. Code of Ethics and Conduct are guidelines for club members to follow. One doesn't have to be a member to follow them.

If your ethics and practices are impecciable, your reputation as a breeder/person will preceed you. You will become one that one wants to business with.

Just because one registers their dogs with AKC does not make you reputable.
