| Welcome to Yorkietalk! I'm guessing you ask because you're thinking of breeding your new little boy. Regardless, he's super cute!!!

| thanks for the welcome and yes we are interested in breeding him when he gets older. i've only had yorkies as pets before him so i'm not too familiar with their genetics for color yet so i wanted to confirm. i've only bred aussies so their genetics aren't hard to figure out. but i look forward to seeing little yorkies scampering around. he's a sweetie so i'll have to share some more pics in the growing up area thanks everyone |

| I guess you are interested in getting some unusual collors from breeding him??? Actually the breed standard allows only for traditional blue and gold or tan and you can also register the black and tan. Chocolates and golds are not supposed to be "desired" ... He is sooooooo cute , by the way ! XOXO

| i know the standard but i'm not sure yet, as i don't breed for color. but then again i've never bred a dog where only one color was acceptable by akc standard. i haven't bred yorkies (only aussies), i was just looking to get a little more info on yorkie color genetics. You can find aussie genetics anywhere on the web, yorkies, not so much. he can't be shown because of his white but i think he'll be an asset to a well thought out breeding program because he will be able to produce traditional as well. and apparently because he's only a carrier the traditional will be much more common anyhow. also thank you, he's a sweetie |

| If you are thinking about breeding. Learn all that you can learn. Read this breeder forum, get a couple of good books on breeding and read them cover to cover several times. learn the proper terminology, learn to how to handle the mating process. Learn how to know if your girls is pregnant. Learn what to expect during labor and delivery. Learn what supplies to have on hand. Learn what you will need to contain mother and babies for the first 3 weeks, and how to contain the puppies once they start to walk. Learn Learn Learn. So you don't have to come on here saying my dog got "hooked up" with the neighbor dog, I didn't know she was in heat, how long before the puppies arrive. |

Right now is my time to focus on the genetics and the proper body of a yorkie. I have owned pet quality yorkies but it wasn't really important if they had a strong gait. So as I said with him being too young to be health tested and looked at by a professional I will just enjoy him. | |
