| I'm not a breeder but I did find a post that has some info on it. Please don't just use this thread to make your decision - I'm sure some of the breeders will respond soon - but it's always good to do as much ready as possible on any subject and then decide for yourself. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...g-puppies.html If there's any other subject you want to read about you can either do a search (on the right side of the blue bar above) for it - or even to to the YT Library (second listing at the top of the page between the 2 blue bars). Good Luck!

| I've read where breeders will feed baby cereal mixed with half goat milk mixed with half water, then graduate to baby food meat & baby food veggies.

| I start my babies on baby cereal (rice) 2-3tbs mixed with goats milk (canned) 1/4 cup and 1/4 cup water starting at around 5 weeks or so. At about 6 weeks I add in baby food chicken 1/2 jar. I feed them 3 times a day from the start and let them nurse also. At 7 weeks I omit the rice cereal and make a puppy food mush (ground up Nutro puppy dry food in food processor) mixed with the goats milk to make a mush. I let the puppies have their fill of what I serve then let momma finish it each time. At 8 weeks I add the goats milk and water to the dry food kibble to soak it till it will not hold anymore. Keep in mind all along momma is still nursing her babies and gets all the leftovers each time which mine love I let the puppies nurse until momma says enough. I let her decide when to wean within reason. Some babies need an extra week or so and others prefer the food over the nipple. That is how I do it, I am sure other breeders do differently. Some use canned food, I do not as the pups tend to want to stay on the canned and it is hard to switch them to dry. Good luck!! |

| ~I start mine on puppy food between 3-4 weeks. I put some puppy food in the blender to a powdery mixture, add some water so it is almost liquidy, also add gerber baby rice cereal. They don't eat that much at first, usually make a huge mess, but within in a couple of days, they know what it is and will start to lap it up. My moms usually will wean the puppy from her milk about 8 weeks. I probably start earlier than most with the puppy food, but it does give the mom a break and helps with the weaning process. Good Luck!! |
