| How old are the babies? You might need to syringe water to her. if she is dehydrated she will definitely lose her milk. does she look full around the nipples when it is time to nurse? Do the babies gain weight and look full after nursing? can you express any milk with your fingers? Looking at the babies eand weighing them is a good indicator if they are getting enough to eat. Their bellies should look like fat toads after eating. If she is not producing, you need to have her checked for an infection. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Crying (hungry) babies would be an indicator that mom doesn't have enough milk. If the babies are nursing and sleeping, nursing and sleeping........in other words "satisfied" and/or if their bellies are nice & full, then mom has plenty of milk. The pups should be weighed daily for the first week or two, then at least weekly after that. Have water readily available at all times and feed mama as much as she will eat. My girl had a litter 4 weeks ago and I've been feeding her meals 4 times a day. Ever since she got PG, she had gone off kibble completely and is just now accepting some kibble mixed with the moist food. I'm guessing if the water is there for her, she will drink when she's thirsty. If you are feeding her moist food, there is also liquid in that and I've read (as yucky as it sounds), mom also gets liquids in her when she is diapering the babies. If you are concerned she is not drinking enough, pinch her skin from time to time for dehydration.
