| Question about Lactating Mommas Hello Yorkie pals. Ok so... My Bella Maria sofia delivered on Thursday eve about 5:00 PM One pup survived, 2 others stillborn. Delivery was at the Vets office all went good. This is her first time breastfeeding and she is doing what she is supposed to but she looks exauhsted...I gave her some nutri-cal, lots of food, water and even took her temp seems normal 101. She is not panting anymore but earlier she was panting like she is so worn out. We have been up most fo the night as you all know this is work. She isnt really sleeping too good because everytime the pup squirms or squeaks she lifts her head up right away...I just feel so bad for her. Any suggestions or input is greatly apprecieted. Dont know if I am just being an over Anxious mommy?? Thanks. Shannon |

| Hi Shannon, It sounds to my like you just have a normal mom. Panting after birth is not unusual, I have found it usually stops when their milk comes in. She is going to check on her pup every time it makes a noise or moves around. Again, normal. She is probably going to be very reluctant to leave her baby for anything for the first week or so. She probably is very tired, labor and looking after her baby is hard work, she is acting on her instincts and she is just being a good mom. Make sure she gets enough to eat, drink and time away from her baby to relieve herself and don't worry, she will let you pamper her later, right now she is just all about her baby.

| I'm probably not a good one to answer this question for you, I don't give calcium supplements. I do give my girls the whelping pudding (recipe is a sticky in the breeding forum). It is my opinion that with your girl having only one pup and if she is getting a good quality food and the whelping pudding that shouldn't be a major concern for you.
