Is this a heat? Hi Guys & Gals... I havent posted in a while, been crazy busy with life & managing a diabetic cat. My little girl who is 27 months old just went into her 3rd heat, or at least that is what I am thinking. She is a every 9 month heat Yorkie, which this heat (if this is it) is about 3 weeks late from 9 months. I started to notice that my male has been following her around in the past 2 days & I have checked her & checked her & nothing. Friday I mentioned to my husband her nipples looked a little darker than usual... then yesterday, my boy is smelling her again, so I went to check on her, & noticed dry blood on the tip of her hairs around her little girl area. I cleaned it with a baby wipe to make sure it was blood & kind of opened her opening to see if there was anything else & sure enough. The reason I did this was b/c she wasnt/isnt swollen- but is bleeding. Is this normal? B/c the last 2 times I have caught her heat shes already swollen, could that be b/c I caught it a couple days late & this time I caught it right on time? I just want to make sure this is a heat & shes expected to swell, or is there something wrong? Any help will be appreciated! Thanks. PS- Yes I am expecting to breed her. & last time she got her heat, we bred her but she never got pregnant, so I wonder if I caught it too late

Should she be swollen? I've had girls that don't swell and have been bred. My suggestion is that you have her vet checked for possible infection. Which should be done prior to every breeding anyway.

Hi Yes I will be taking her to the vet around day 9-10 to do the testing on her to make sure everything is ok & to test her to see if shes ovulating... I guess I will wait another day or 2 to see if she swells... I just dont understand why she isnt yet.

| As I said before I have girls that have not swelled with one Season, but have on others....it's not unusual. Can they be bred, absolutely.

Is your male experienced? If so then it's doubtful you missed it if all he has been doing is smelling. She is probably just coming in, but the smear will be the best answer.

Yes he is... he's actually her father. Which makes me look after him 100 times more... hes leaving to the in laws tomorrow & will b away until she's done. Ive been keeping an eye on her & still no swelling & I noticed her belly is red & very hot... never noticed this before. I will b taking her to the "fertility" vet tomorrow or tuesday. I'll keep ya ladies posted.

Hes experienced, & I dont understand what you mean by missed it? If you mean an accident, I know that hasnt happened. I have been keeping an eye on her everyday waiting on her heat & they are always under supervision, & when we are not home they are separated in different crates, there is no accidents happening around here, I can guarantee that.
