| How do you tell if you have a parti-yorkie? Hi there. I have a sweet little guy named Bailey. He is 15 weeks old and so much fun. We have noticed his hair changing colors. His hair on the top of his head and chest are white. I have looked lots of places online and he looks like some of the parti-yorkies out there. His back is black/blue, ears are golden, mask is golden, top of the head WAS black/blue but is now growing in white. He had a small white patch on his chest and now seems to be turning more white. I don't know what this means... any answers out there? Thanks for your help! ~Amanda |

| Congratulations! This is the normal color change for a purebred yorkshire terrier! NOT MAKING FUN.. just letting you know that this is absolutely normal. the white on his head and chest will soon turn to gold and the black will turn a nice steel blue if you are lucky. All baby yorkies are born black and tan/gold. And if your yorkie is bred to standard he will go thru this color change, which BTW could take as long as 2 years to be complete

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Sonya is absolutely right. I just looked at the picture of Bailey on your profile and he is definitely the standard colored yorkie. It can take up to 2 years for a yorkie to go through all their color changes; their heads do look kind of white/gray for a while, but slowly changes to tan. Bailey is adorable by the way; you've got a handsome little boy there!

| What you have described is often referred to as "breaking color." It's the normal transition you see when standard colored Yorkies begin to change from the black/gold they are as pups to the standard, steel blue coat. Also, not uncommon for pups to have a white spot on their chest. If you had a Parti Yorkie, it would be VERY obvious. (Welcome to YT...I'm in B'ham too. ) |

| I sure wish you could post a picture of your little one. Is there any white on the toes?

| Thanks to all of you! We searched for a long while before we bought Bailey and we were worried that he was changing colors. I used to raise poodles so the Yorkie is a little stretch for me. I will be taking some newer pictures of our little guy soon. He does not have any white on his toes. Thanks again! sooo much! Amanda |

| No white on the toes...if he had then I would say it might be a biewer splitter because there are a number of breeders in your area. It will be fun to see your pictures.
