| Please do some research on breeders. Check around this site. I am not trying to sound mean but there is not such thing as a "tea Cup" yorkie. Breeders that use the term "tea Cup" are using it as advertising and try to raise the price up. They have a standard size of 4-7 pounds and that is the best size to want. You will have a much better chance of a healthy baby |

YT 2000 Club Member | Im sorry about the loss of your pet.. however, no reputable breeder.. sells teacups.. because thier is no such thing..Yes, Some yorkies are born smaller than the standard.. up to 7 pounds, but they are just small yorkies not "teacups". The word teacup is actually an advertising ploy for breeders to make more money. There are some very good breeders here on YT that have puppies, check out the for sale or wanted section. Good luck with your search..

Then the term would still be a Yorkshire Terrier (or Yorkie) Your baby was three years old when you lost them, may I ask how? A lot of the tiny Yorkies usually come with serious health problems and don't live very long. You may find one but no reputable breeder will be breeding for a tiny Yorkie. I would suggest you choose a reputable breeder and shoot for one that is healthy and charted to be about at least 4 lbs full grown. there are many reputable breeders on this YT website and the YTCA has a list of them too.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree with brendah, don't buy from breeders who use the term "teacup" especially if you want a smaller yorkie. They use the term teacup, but end up selling dogs that grow way over standard size. While even good breeders have dogs that are smaller. they find pet homes for them because a Yorkie under 5 pounds shouldn't be bred. Those that actually breed ultra tinies, are greeders, and don't care if they lose the mothers during child birth as long as they can sell a few more puppies for outrageous sums. Just because the mother and father are small, this in no way insures the offspring will be small, the mother and father could have been the runts, and their genes carry larger size yorkies. No breeder can guarantee a dog will be a certain weight as an adult, they can give you an estimate, any breeder that tells you full grown weight will be 3 pounds is lying to you. I encourage people to find breeders who breed for the whole package, not just one trait, a yorkie has so much going on with it besides it size. If size is your only consideration, when buying a dog, I encourage you to look into rescues, many have smaller yorkies, and this way, you will know the adult size.

You are so right Nancy! I meant to say charted at 4lbs minimum, but mention that is ONLY an estimate and not guaranteed. I responded too fast.

| Does it really matter what size your yorkie is as long as it is healthy? It is so important not to get hung up on the tea cup thing. I agree with all the other posts. A standard yorkie is not usually 3 lbs and sometimes they end up being small but a breeder that breeds them to make sure they are 3 lbs in my opinion is NOT a good breeder. A good breeder wants to improve the blood line.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree with everyone's posts, it was just that brendah was the only one who replied when I first tried to post, I'm having problems posting today, you may be too fast, but I'm too slow, maybe it will even out somehow?

| It is okay to want a yorkie on the smaller side. A reputable breeder will have one at sometime or another. Good luck with your search and be very careful! The great thing is that you asked for a reputable breeder and that is what matters! When you do find a great breeder they will tell you what you need to know when buying a smaller than average yorkie. Good luck! |

My Sophie is 2 lbs. and a few ounces (varies a little), but I had no idea she was going to stay so small when she was given to me as a gift. Because I expected her to get to 5-7 lbs., I worry about her health/safety. May I ask how you lost your little one? Again, my condolences. Last edited by mommyofsophie; 03-17-2010 at 10:58 AM. | |

Thor's Human Donating Member | 7 lbs and under is the "standard" for yorkies. 7 is still really small! My Thor is a little under 4lbs, and many people say he's the tiniest adult dog they've ever seen. I wish he were a little larger, honestly. I agree with people here, focus on finding a reputable breeder. Their goal will be to breed yorkies 7lbs and under. Some of them may be larger, some smaller. A very good breeder who knows her lines will be able to give you a better estimate (not guarantee) of size. There are a lot of unscrupulous people out there who promise tinies. They can use all kinds of tactics - pretending a dog is older than it really is, so it seems to be small; pretending they know the dog will be small, when they really have no idea; or most tragically, breeding very small, unhealthy dogs with no regard for anything but size. The word "teacup" is a big red flag. A good breeder will not use this term. Good luck on finding your new baby. |

Thank you! She asked about a "tea cup Yorkie breeder" in this thread and stated she didn't care whatever the term is, she wanted another one but from a "reputable" breeder Which she will not get, because no reputable breeder breeds them. Of course she can get another smaller than the standard one but I hope never recommended from someone on YT.....
