Donating YT 500 Club Member | ACA is the American Canine Assoc. and is the registry many commercial breeders (Puppymills) and bad byb's use to register dogs. The requirements for registering dogs with them are not very stringent, I don't believe they do any facility inspections like AKC. Essentially it's a worthless registry, IMO. Disreputable breeders will often promote their pups are registered, and then you find out they are ACA registered....so what?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Here's a great link the explains about registries. Registries This is what it says about the ACA ACA - American Canine Association Advertises that over 3000 adult breeding canines are registered each week. Only registry endorsed by Petland. **Caters to commercial breeders.** Refers puppy seekers to pet stores. You can be sure that the dog that is ACA registered has parents/grandparents living in puppy mills. I think they finally closed Petland down, but it opened under a new name. Because people don't understand the differences between a reputable registry and a paper registry, they think that any dog that is registered is purebred. This is not true, as many paper registries will even register mixes. Anyone can open a registry. The only reputable registry in the United States is the American Kennel Club known as the AKC, not every breeder who registers with them is reputable, but it's a starting place. The only way you can ensure your dog isn't coming from a puppy mill is to see for yourself where it's been raised.

| Have you checked the USDA "puppy mill" list to make sure your breeder's name isn't on it? Missouri has the highest number of puppy mills in the country, earning it the nickname The Puppy Mill Capital of the US. http://www.prisonersofgreed.org/ListA2006.pdf |

WOW, Nancy that video was awful to look at but good! I wish someone would make a serious commercial about puppymills and air it on all major TV networks during prime time!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Oh, I didn't even want to link a bad one, some make me cry through the whole thing, I thought this one just gives a little idea why puppies registered with the ACA shouldn't be bought. Their parents are living in hell and until we quit buying the puppies, more dogs will have to live that way. I mean the ACA is the only registry "endorsed" by Petland, most the time you don't have to say more than that, but I realize some people are new to all of this.

| I can tell you first hand they are a huge joke! Getting anything from them is near impossible. I had a mixed breed that was registered with them and I was NEVER able to get a pedigree or anything else. They take your money then ignore you. My understanding is that they are some kind of database for pedigrees. I see a dog registered ACA and I click the back button!! Breeders who have been banned from the AKC use registries like this and then have to sell their pups for cheap because they aren't AKC registered. The biggest one besides the CKC now is APRI, and again, most breeders who use these are banned from AKC and this way they can still say their dogs are registered. I personally would never buy a dog registered with anyone except the AKC in the USA. Other countries have their own legit registries. I don't know the percentage, but it has to be near 99% of these breeders are commercial breeders selling to pet stores. |

| They already do... I see them so much I honestly get sick of seeing them. Mainly because they are for the HSUS.. I see them more on cable stations though. I cannot sit through a movie or tv show on many stations without seeing these ads several times during a show or movie. |
