| Introducing puppies to food My pups will be 4 weeks on Thursday....Zoe is not interested in feeding them at all (I do bottle feed one of the pups...lizzy) I'm afraid Zoe won't be feeding them at all soon...right now we have to make her feed them and sit by her until they are done because as soon as I get up she's up right behind me...I did give them some canned puppy food yesterday and they seemed interested....Lizzy went crazy for it..figures...the one I'm not worried about since I feed her....Should I start with canned food or because they are so young I should start with baby food??? or are they not that young at all ... |

| Usually nature has it's way to tell us we are ready for the next step. Momma's start leaving the babes more and more at this age. I start introducing food for the pups at 4 weeks. I do not use can. What I do is to take the dry food they will be eating and add water to that. Once the dry has absorbed the water I take a fork and mash it more. As the pups grow older and develop teeth I keep the softening of the food to a minimal. By six week old they should be converted right to dry food.

| I usually do the adding water to dry food at 4 weeks also.... This last litter (Pebbles') didn't care for it... I then added baby food to it.... they didn't like that either... by the 5th week I had them on the canned puppy food.... by the 6th week they were weaned from mom and ate anything and everything... dry food included. 4 weeks is a good time to at least start them lapping at food so they get the hang of it. Good luck.
