| Reputable breeder. sales in NJ??? Guy Garner?? Hi. I was just at D&G's Petite Pups in Paterson where someone here posted theat puppy find says he is a gread reputable breeder. I'm not so sure. All of the dogs in the cages are from the same breeder. F. Miller in Ohio. I did find the prices low but there are upto 5-6 puppies in a cage. The ears are not up and when I put the 3 dogs I liked on the floor they just stood there. they were active and playful with the other puppies but not when Ip ut them down on the floor. How do we know if Guy is really a good owner? I think he may be getting his puppies from a Mill in OH even though his worker said Oh no we don't get our puppies at puppy mills. She let it slip that the Miller family is Amish***** bells went off in my head. Any advice??? I saw one that I really want and am not sure if I should buy her or not. Thanks all. |

| I do not know this breeder, but what you mentioned does not sound good. 5-6 dogs per cage?? Go with your gut... if you think he's not reputable, keep looking. From the things you said, my advice would be to pass up this breeder. Nobody will admit they get their puppies from a mill; including a pet store...just FYI. Check out ytca.org breeder referrals for a list of breeders in your area. Be sure to research any breeder before purchasing a puppy. Last edited by AMD; 02-02-2010 at 07:32 PM. |

| Thats a difficult call. We don't believe in kenneling our Yorkies - they have free run of the kitchen and family room and are very good about not making a mess (they use the wee pads if they have to go and we aren't here to let them out). When we have a litter of puppies, they are in a playpen (very large) if we aren't home. However, we also let them out to run and play as long as we are home to watch them. Our puppies ALWAYS run up to meet and greet new people. They are never timid or shy. In my opinion, puppies should be curious and playful. They should not be crowded into small kennels. Then again, I believe we are the exception to the rule when it comes to many breeders. We make sure all our puppies go home with all their shots, an Avid chip, flea & tick prevention, heart guard prevention, 1 year health guarantee, etc, etc. We treat each puppy as one of our children and have never, not once, had a customer that didn't love our puppies after they purchased them. If you're uncomfortable when walking into a breeder's home/kennel, trust your first instinct, thank them for their time and tell them you'll pass.

| Is this the guy that advertises on petfinder? I am from northern nj, and had a hard time finding a reputable breeder. We finally found a breeder in upstate NY, about 3 hours from northern NJ, Montour Yorkies, they have a web page and I highly recommend them. Luann |

| Seems to me like you have a personal problem with the Amish (I couldn't imagine why). Ever think that maybe you could be sterotyping a group of people? If you're uncomfortable buying a dog then thats understandable, but uncomfortable because there's talk of the Amish? I've been to D&G's and not once did I see a cage with more than three dogs in it. Also, the dogs I played with were very friendly and just needed a little time to open up. I ended up purchasing a dog there, and I haven't had a single problem. The staff was friendly and they went over their 1 year guarentee with me so I could understand it. Also, all the dogs have had all of their puppy shots and deworming treatments, and have been vet checked two times before sale. Maybe you let the word "Amish" stop you from purchasing a wonderful puppy from a wonderful pet store. |

So like the OP said, go with your gut on this one. we often get distracted by the cuteness factor of the puppy that we don't listen to our heads. try sending emails to the breeder and ask them some of the harder questions that most bad breeders will try to sidestep. ask about living conditions, where they raise the pups, how they socialize them, about the dam & sire. ask a million questions if you need to to feel assured. and if the only question they have to ask you is if you have enough money to pay in cash or how long it will take for you to pay on paypal then look for a different breeder. However, with all of your doubts i would find a breeder you're more comfortable with. | |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | You've given a lot of good reasons that this is probably a place you should pass on. As you've already been told, no broker or pet store would EVER admit they buy from or encourage the puppy mill industry. They'll all swear they are different and you'll only find out the truth afterwards (these guys seem to have a warped definition of puppy mill- it's ALWAYS someone larger than where they get their dogs from). And to Kev25: how fortunate that you are from NJ and you just HAPPENED to find this thread and were here to defend the Amish for you first post. Things that make you go "hmmmmm..."

| Kev, i'm not going to comment on the Amish, cause i really dont know too much about them. BUT I'm just curious why you would find 3 dogs in a cage to poop and pee where they slept to be acceptable? Puppies should be out and socialized with the family breeding them. Unless of course you poop and pee in the same place that you sleep in...then i can maybe understand your thinking.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Some seem to missed the fact...this is a pet store. Pet stores get their "stock" from puppymills. While many believe purchasing from a pet store...saves that puppy, the fact is...that puppies' parents typically live in cages and are bred to death....buying that puppy insures they remain in that h-ll. Run.

| I did miss that what the OP was talking about was a store as they kept stating breeder. there are NO breeders in pet stores and no ethical breeder would sell to a pet store. good breeders want to know where there puppies are going to make sure that the puppy is a good match for it's family. I agree, run fast and run far. |

No kenneling and 5 or 6 puppies in a cage? Puppies need the stimuli to grow and develop right ! XOXO
