Default Mama killing pups?

I have two pups out of a litter of four (two died) that are one day old. My concern is the fact that I just had one put down because I found a very small place that looked like a tooth mark on it side under its rib. It was oozing out and the vet said it was damaged internally so I had to put her down. I got home and checked on the other two that are doing well and also noticed one of them has the same type marks in the same place, just not as deep and not oozing. What are the chances that the mama is actually trying to kill them? What would be your opinion on what to do with them? Take them away from mama and bottle feed or leave them with her? I have not seen her hurting them and I have been supervising her constantly. I am at a loss at what to do because they are thriving right now and I don't want to change that, but on the other hand I don't want to leave them with her if she is possibly killing them. Any help would be appreciated!

Gosh I am so sorry to hear this. I have no clue as to what to tell you.
It must be heart breaking to you. I will pray for you though and maybe someone will post that knows what to do.

I am just a bit confused, and I'm sorry, but do you have 2 litters or 1? I was just asking because your other posts said you had a litter of 5 and then you had a litter of 4 . . so I'm assuming you have two litters? Are there any other animals in the house that can get to the puppies besides their mother? Is there the male or another female? A cat?

Not sure the mama would bite their own puncturing a hole . . .

Is it possible that she accidently injured them when she was chewing the cord.

Did she have a hard time delivering them, were you with her the entire time.

maybe she tried to pull them out?

I'm so sorry that this happened, I don't know what to tell you.

I do have two litters- the other litter is 5 and all of them are doing well. This is a seperate litter. I do have other dogs, but they are all on seperate ends of the house and are away from the mama's at all times. She has no reason to harm them or feel threatened. I am at a loss and I want these two to live

I was there when she delivered them. The first one was fine, but only 3oz, the second one was stillborn, and the last two (the living ones) were breech and I had to assist in getting them out. I cut the cords myself and tied them off with floss. I was with her the entire time. I don't know when else she did it other than the times that I was resting in between checking on them but I never heard them yelp until one time this morning and that was because she had pushed the sick girl away from her. They were right beside my bed in a rubbermaid container that I cut out the front of. It was not like I left her unattended...I just don't understand because I am trying everything and I don't want to lose anymore

Is there a chance that the other momma tried to take them from her?

A friend had two mommas, one took a baby from the other and as she was trying to jump back into the playpen, she accidently bit through the puppy.

is it possible mom is trying to move them at all? maybe she's doing that when she's trying to diaper them.

I think if it were me-I'd supervise mom and separate when you cannot.

I think she is trying to move them and is holding them too tight. She may even be feeling threaten by you since it was a litter you needed to be so involved with and she doesn't understand the intervention. I don't think it's intentional but from the way I read what you said there is only one left and if you can get her to feel that you will not touch her last puppy it will probably be ok. The thing is it's a catch 22 because you can't leave it alone with her and you can't stay awake 24/7. I also noticed the last posting you made was yesterday evening. I hope the little one is doing ok.

There are just some females that absolutely do not want any assistance and will accidentally kill the puppies in trying to keep them away from anyone.

My whelping box is really high so that her babies feel protected and she doesn't have the need to move them.

Pebbles will not let any of the other dogs into the room that she is in. Pebbles is my daughters dog so her babies are in a corner away from traffic.

When I bring my males in she snaps at them like she is about to bite their heads off and her babies are now 1month. For this reason I never let any of the other dogs upstairs as this is her territory.

My female is over friendly and will allow others to touch her babies but gets anxious. If I'm there she is ok with anything & the same applies to my daughter. However she wants us to put them back in her area right away.

My vet tells me that mother dogs know instinctively when something is not right with a puppy. I am sorry to hear this with your babies.

Sorry for your loss.
If your whelping box is the open type you might provide her with
a more den type one like this.
Some moms just feel more comfortable in an enclosed area.

Padding in the bottom along with moms body heat it stay pretty warm inside and draft free.
I should say that the hole on that one is bigger then the one I use for moms.
