| I think my baby is pregnant! I woke up @ 5:30am to my baby crying about 2 weeks ago. I got up to see what was the matter and she was tied to my boyfriends yorkie. Since then, I have done extensive research and am tryng to be as ready as I possibly can for pups. The thing that worries me the most is that the male is bigger than she is. They are the same size in stature but he weighs 5-6 lbs more then she does!! Does anyone have any helpful advice for me other than seeing a vet as we already have an appointment. I am just very anxious and worried for the well being of my dog. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!! |

| How old is she and how much does she weigh? Did you know that she was in heat or was this something that you were planning? IMHO I would be making an appointment to have her spayed ASAP.

| I agree. Spaying her now might be necessary to save her life. |

| I did know she was in heat and we were keeping them separated but somehow he got in the bedroom while we were sleeping. She is 1 year old in her second heat cycle. She weighs 5.6 lbs and he weighs about 10lbs. I know it is not reccomended to breed until they are at least 2 but this was NOT planned. I called my vet to have her spayed and he will not do it if there is any chance she may be pregnant. I'm pretty sure she is as she has eaten alot less the past 2 days and had her 1st bout with morning sickness just today. I know it is pretty irresponsible and I'm not looking for ridicule please. I feel guilty enough about it. Really looking for some advice |

| I would find a vet who will spay her now. If the male is twice her size, you may lose her if you don't. |

| I know this is what I should do but people keep telling me it is "fine" it is "nature". This is why I am here looking for expert advice. I have actually spoken with the breeders I got her from and they tell me it will be ok too. i am so torn. I really do appreciate your input and I definitely WILL be looking for a new vet. She is 16 days along. How long do you think I have before she is too far along? |

Take her in to a vet to examine her. If she is carrying large pups it can rupture her uterine horns & kill her--why even take the chance? I wouldnt wait to find out. It is natural for dogs to mate and have puppies naturally, but your yorkie sounds pretty small and a dog twice her size isnt good. If she was a larger breed dog it wouldnt be that big of a deal, but she's a toy sized yorkie--very different scenario.

| The best advice I can give is to continue working closely with your vet throughout her pregnancy, whelp and afterwards, care for mom and pups. Your vet should be able to do an xray on her around day 50 and get a good idea of what size the pups seem to be and if she may need a c-section. Good luck and keep us update on her progress. |

Make sure you are financially prepared for the expense if you decide to go forward with the pregnancy. Find out what an emergency c-section at the ER vet hospital will be as there is a good chance she may go into labor after hours or on a weekend. As ER vets require payment upfront, you must have the $1200 (estimate) at the time or they will turn you away.

| I agree with having her spayed. Finding a vet to do that shouldn't be too hard. If you never planned to breed her, why make her go thru all that. Having puppies is a lot of work, time and money and with your dog being so much smaller, why risk it? JMO |

| My advice is to have her spayed now. Unless you're prepared to give up approximately 4 months of your life, that would be your best option. Now breeding to a smaller male is a misnomer. So many other factors figure into the equation. The boy may have come from a line of smaller yorkies, just a throw back. The number of pups your girl is carrying and if she has the ability to carry them to term. How prepared are you, knowledge, and finances to go through the whole process. Do you have the finances to obtain all the equipment that will be needed to whelp this litter and for your girls prenatal and post whelp care.

| Okay, so I spoke with an ER vet today who would do a spay, HOWEVER, she said if it were her, she would let her have the pups and just keep in contact with my vet throughout the pregnancy. She informed me that if the pups are too large, or there are any other complications, they will be able to tell and we can schedule a C-Secton if need be which I am financially ready for. I am praying I don't have to put my baby through this but if it will save her life, I am willing to pay anything. I did actually think about breeding her, just not this soon and not with a dog this big. I also have done alot of research on breeding and what it will entail so I am ready for this HUGE responsibility. Also, the breeders that I got Mylie from are willing to come over and help with the whelping process which I am thankful for seeing that they are experienced. I truly appreciate all the feedback. Thank you for your concern!! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | If you've done all the research, have different vets and your breeder telling you this will all be just fine, I don't understand what advice you were looking for here.

Is there a reason why you have not had her spayed or your boyfriends yiorkie neutered?
