| Fattening up a girl I have a question. I have a girl who's about 11 months. She weighs just under 4 lbs right now. If I look at her height and length and even her bone structure, she seems like she should weigh more. She is THIN. She eats really well, is sturdy and is comparable in size to my spayed girl (who is fat)...who weighs 6.5 lbs. PHoebe is supposed to be about 5.5-6 lbs. I am still waiting for Felicity's first heat cycle, and no I won't breed her the first cycle, and no I won't breed her if she doesn't gain some weight. Her 12 week weight suggested she would be around 5- 5.5 lbs. I talked to her breeder and I guess her daddy took awhile to gain his weight too. So...what foods could I give her to help fatten her up a little? She is on Wee Bits and sometimes Royal Canin Puppy33. She eats all day. Thanks! deb |

| i think you may just have a small dog...just like with my girl who was suppose to be 6-7 lbs and was 5 lbs grown...as long as shes eating you shouldnt worry too much. also fatty foods can take a toll (bad) on them |

| If you fatten her up she still may not be big enough structurally to breed and she may be overweight which is not good for her health

| It sounds like it her structure. be careful with fattening foods, it may backfire on you. I have a skinny girl, healthy as it can be, she is just skinny. I dont think she will ever be fat, she had 2 litters, and is spayed, right after spay she gained a bit , for about 2 months, then... right back to her normal weight. She is nice structured at 7 pounds . maybe you are not supposed to breed your girl? A very fattening food is " science diet a/d" , it is however a prescription food and should not be used for prolonged periods of time. Under vet supervision and with common sense is very safe. XOXO

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I have been wondering the same thing but my girl is 6 pounds but really thin. I thought maybe I should feed her some wet extra to put a little weight on her. She is the same height and lenght as my girl that is 7 pounds. Then again I thought it might be better to leave her alone..she is healthy just thin in my eyes. I like stockier girls for breeding.

| Hmmm...My post didn't post! Just so you all know I am in no way set on breeding her. I don't think I can make that kind of decision until she is fully grown and I can see how she turns out. I was just wondering if she needed more calories. I don't, however, want a fat unhealthy dog...that's for sure. Thanks for all the input. Hope you are all staying warm. On my drive home tonight here in Puget Sound, WA it was all of 18 degrees...yikes! deb |
