New to breeding and welcome all advice :) Hello everybody here, I am new to breeding and could use any adivice. Please don't be rude. I realize I am not going to get rich. I have 2 females that I have raised since pups they are now almost 2years and just over 2 years old. They live in my home and I just recently bought my male.(2 weeks ago). All 4 of my dogs are healthy they go to the vet on a regular basis. My other baby is a female but she is spayed due to being so small and not safe for breeding. My main question is how to know if I have pregnant yorkie befor I take her to the vet? We have a large home and they have access to everyplace (I might not see them actually tie) How far into the pregnancy should I seperate her from the other dogs? How old should the pups be before they are introduced to the rest of the family? I love them all and want them to be safe. I will welcome any tips and advice .

Question? Have you had all the preliminary tests done on your girls and male..... Bile acids Hips and Knees x-rayed temperament tests eyes, ears, heart and kidney checked over Complete Blood Count I'm sure you're very familiar with the background of your breeding dogs......but if you can get any information on them that you can. You should handle the complete breeding, never allowing the male and female alone.....if you can 2 sets of hands are better. One person holding the male and guiding him and the other holding the female.....A female (especially a maiden one) can get a bit testy and can hurt your male...... Another thing you might consider is that if you have a maiden and an unproven male.....the breeding may not be as easy as you think......then artificial insemination will have to be performed........You never want to bruise your boys ego......and ruin his stud career. I attempt to keep my girls seperated from the rest as soon as she's bred. Especially if you have two girls in Season and with whelp at the same time....these girls will play off each other. You can usually tell a girl is with pups around the end of the 5th week. At times around the 3rd week they'll go off food and have morning sickeness. You'll see a personality change....become coy and clingy. X-rays on your girl can be performed a week before their first due date. The first 8 weeks pups need nothing but their mother and quiet.....keep handling to a minimum..... After their first shots you can bring them out to a family area that is sectioned off.....and let mom begin the training program 8-12 weeks mom does a lot of training....you can slowly introduce them to other females....no males.....they tend to be a bit aggressive. Make sure you have enough in your bank account to cover emergencies....c-sections.....emergencies on the weekend.....etc. Be prepared to lose your female and/or puppies. Lots to learn....if you can find a mentor to help you through this.

A few of the rules I follow. Have a good strong contract. One that will hold up in court. You're primary concern is the welfare of the pup. I never ship I want to meet the new owners face to face. I never sell to young marrieds. Reason, they will have children, the babies will become their primary focus, as it should be. The possibility exists that the pup will be rehomed. I never place a pup in homes with children younger than 10......too many things can happen. Kids are in and out, leaving doors open. Children tend to view these wee ones as stuffed animals, they carry them around and can drop them (broken bones and fatalities). I never place a pup during the holidays.....too much activity going on.... The first question I usually ask when contacted is: Do you have any problem with me visiting your home...... If the first words out of a possible new family is how much are your dogs. I tend to shut down. I realize that cost is a deciding factor. But, if that is your primary concern, other than the pups, health, my breeding practices.....then you are bargain hunting (not a bad thing), but this is a long term committment.

Mary answered many of your questions, but it is really not safe to let them just breed on their own. Your males could get hurt. And besides that - you have to know who the sire of the pups are, or you will need to do DNA testing. Not knowing is just not good practice. You need to see them breed. When I notice my females come into heat I seperate them from my males and note the day that I noticed. I check my females daily, so I know when they come into heat. | |

I noticed she said that she got two males recently and that the other baby she has, a female, was spayed? Sorry if I got it confused. Still good not the just let them breed by themselves.

ditto what everyone else has said. You will know when they tie if you control the breeding and that is a must. When my girls show first blood, they are separated from the boys until I determine to breed them. then they are bred and separated again.

Besides the other advice that was given on the mating, if you let them breed any time, any where, you will have no idea when she is due.
