| We Have Puppies!!!!! Shortie gave birth the afterneen of Thursday the 29th. She had 6 puppies!!! We were only expecting her to have 3 or 4 so 6 was quite a shock. They range from 2 onces to 4 and 3/4 ounces. They all are doing great as is mom. The little 2 oz runt is the best eater. They are quite active little things. The birth was the most amazing thing I ever witnessed. And Shortie is an awesome mommy. We did have to make an emergency vet trip after the 4th puppy because the placenta didn't come out with the pup. Her labor stoped then for an hour and she started having some bright red blood. It was scairey. So off to the vet we went. Thats when we found out that there was 2 more. I was so suprised. They gave her a shot of that oxitocin and on the way home the placenta came out and a puppy was born going down the road. Shortie was so calm during the birthing. She never whined, groweled, or anything like that. She would just shake a little and then push like it was nothing. I am so proud of her and she is so proud of her babies. I do have one question: With her having such a large litter is there anything special I should be feeding her? I just worry about her getting down. She already looks skinny. Also when can I give her a bath? If someone can tell me how to do it then I will send pics of mom and puppies. I am so excited. Thanks so much for all your help through this! | I would wait a bit before a bath, maybe at least a week. I just gave BEll a sponge (washcloth bath) As far as feeding her, I gave Bell cottage cheese once a day (about a tablespoon) Glad all turned out great with her birth! Can't wait to see baby pictures!!

| Another question I just realized her flea drops are due today. How long should I wait on giving her them? I know this is a silly question but how do you give the sponge bath? I have been washing her tummy and private area with a washcloth, but she has stuff stuck in her hair that it doesn't get out. Thank you for replying. I will hopefully have some pics posted soon. Thanks again, Shelly |

| bath I stand mine in the sink and wash them from the waist down after whelping..use a dryer...I guess no one will be coming to my house for dinner from YT! LOL No flea meds...and feed her tons of food. I mix the dry with a chicken, rice, cottage cheese..I give mine yogart..but go easy if she is not used to human food. Lots of calcuim, 1/2 Tums AM/PM. Mine also drink goats milk with egg yolk only..but again, it will upset a mommies tummy, so go slwo, but feed her lots. I also give Liver and eggs mixed with dry twice a week. |

| congrats on your new kids amazing litter size. When washing moms I only use baby shampoo while they are nursing, blow dry very well before placing her back with the new babies. For quick little clean ups I use unscented baby wipes...

| update on mom and babies Hey! Thanks to everyone for replying. Mommy and babies are still doing fine! There are 5 girls and 1 boy. The boy is the smallest one. When I weighed them yesterday they had all gained atleast an ounce since the day before! I am very shocked at how well they are doing especially since this is her first litter. As for feeding her she went crazy over the cottage cheese. She never gets table food so she was excited. I hope to figure out how to post pics soon. Thanks again for all the help. Shelly P. |
