How long did your mommies nurse? Just curious! My Maggie is still nursing her boys, maybe twice a day. They are 9 weeks old today. They eat puppy food and drink water, but I was just wondering how much longer she will want to nurse. They have sharp little razor teeth!

Some mommies just have a hard time telling their babies 'No'. I have had some moms let they pups suckle until they were 10 weeks old even thought the momma was dried up. When mom is ready she will start snapping at them. Some people do put onesies on the momma to help break the pups of the nursing habit. Just make sure their toenails are kept trimmed because the sharp nails can be very painful to them.

Onesies? Do you mean the kind you buy for "human" babies? Or just t-shirts for dogs?_ i hate using the term "dogs"-they are my babies!

I had one m om that kept letting her babies nurse when they were 9 weeks. I didn't stop it, they also ate puppy foold. Then I had a new momma get sick and her milk stopped when the babies were a week old. Well thank God this other mother still had milk. So I would put the puppies to her several times a day, but they would also still try to nurse from their own momma. After she got to feeling better her milk came back. But I was so greatful for the temporary foster mom.

My mama hasn't had any milk since five weeks. i weaned the babies and took mama completly away since she had abandoned them anyway. i let them out of the puppy pen during the day at about six weeks until a couple of weeks ago when I put them in with the big dogs only crating them at night. They are twelve weeks old now and every time they are near mama, they run her down and she stands there and lifts her hind leg for a minute or two. i think it is a comfort thing. they soon tire and run away to play. never seen anything like it at twelve weeks. Forgot to add that mama has run of the house and is only in with them about every two days or so.

Bella Mia's puppies did that too. They are 12 weeks and up until about last week even though she dried up quite awhile ago she would lift her leg and let them suckle for about 30 seconds and then growl and snap at them. They seemed to just want to be "pacified" for a second. They would quickly go right back to playing. Bella Mia has run of the house and plays with them about 3 times a day by her choice. She jumps the little baby gate when she doesnt want to be near them any longer.
