| Is She Being Too Strict? Kalina's puppies are 4 weeks old today. This morning I took them out of their whelping box/x-pen area and put down some pee pads and set them on there to see how they are walking, etc. Kalina won't let them make a move! She head-butts them and rolls on top of them and is acting crazy! She never, ever acts like that when they are in the whelping area. In fact, she is spending less and less time with them every day - just going in there to clean them and nurse them. Not paranoid at all. Is this normal behavior?

| I am so good at neverminding you just wouldn't believe it!!!!! BUT -- it sounds like Kalina is just being an overprotective first time Mom and she should "get over" it soon. Would love to see some pics or a video of Mom in action. |

| Some mommas do get very excited when the pups get out of their x-pen area. It is common for the mom to protect and shelter them when they first start venturing out. They are getting to the age where mom will try to play with them some. I have had a few moms get a little too rough with the playing but I have never had a pup get hurt from it. I prefer the mommas that play gently and let the pups climb all over them. I think the mommas that play too rough can be pretty intimidating to the pups. |
