| Abbie is in labor right now! hello I am out of state and my girlfriend just called and we think Abbie is going into labor. she is panting really hard and shaking along with her belly tightening up and stuff. Does anyone have any advice? she called the vet and said that yeah she is probably going into labor. She doesnt have a thermometer to take her temperature either. Im soo excited and I hope she has them ok. I just want to post to see if anyone has any advice for me to give to my girlfriend when i call her back. She is expecting 2 babies! |

| Sounds like it is time! Don't leave her alone. Probably no need to take her temp at this point. Offer her water/broth/vanilla icecream between the pups. Good that the vet is alerted.

| The treats are to keep her hydrated, and give her nourishment without upsetting her stomach. The ice cream is for a bit of calcium to stimulate milk production and contractions (not everyone does this). You may want to write down things, like the time when contractions started etc. (sometimes it seems to take forever but really has only been 10 min) That way if you get into trouble you can tell the vet exactly what is going on.

| Congrats! Keep the baby warm. Offer mom a drink. It might be a few minutes before the next one comes

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Congrats on the successful whelp of the first pup. She looks great & nursing already. That's good; it will also help stimulate more contractions for the next puppy. After the whelp, the pups should be kept in a box/bed with a heating pad on low underneath a blanket. The pups cannot regulate their body temp & need to be kept warm and out of drafts.
