| Has this ever happened to anyone else??? My Roxy had her puppies this past Saturday and all five puppies seem healthy and happy. She had three big boys and two small girls. Well anyway, about 4 o'clock this morning I'm awoken to the sound of a crying puppy. I have no idea what's going on and by the time I wake up and realize, I see that Roxy has carried one of the girl puppies onto the bed and under the covers with me. I'm a bit freaked because I don't know if anything is wrong with the puppy so I try to take a peak. Roxy grabs the puppy, in her mouth and moves away, so basically I'm chasing Roxy with a puppy in her mouth, all around the bed. Finally, Roxy jumps down off the bed (yes, puppy is still in her mouth) and she goes back in her whelping box with the other puppies. She wont let me look at any of the puppies but I see that the little girl is moving around and now eating. I had a better look this morning (while Roxy was outside going to the restroom ) and the puppy seemed fine. Has anyone had this happen to them? Any insight on WHY she did this? Is she trying to tell me something is wrong? I'm just a worried momma. |

| I've had this happen with kitten litters (I've helped raise so many as a teen). I never had them put them under the covers, but I have had them jump on the bed and jump back off with them in their mouths when I went to reach for them. I haven't seen any dogs do this, but know they will hide their babies. She might not feel comfortable with the puppies where they are and wants to hide them where she feel is the safest. You might want to try closing her in an x-pen with the puppies so she doesn't harm them moving them to another place. Good luck.

| Mom's usually do this when there is something wrong with the baby. The baby eating is a good sign though. I had a friend that the Mom would bring the tiny baby to him for help. He started supplementing the little one, and Mom would bring him the baby every time she thought it needed fed. I would put her and the babies in an X-pen. What would be worse than a sick baby passing, would be you rolling over onto it in bed and not waking up. |

| My chihuhua did this a few months back and it freaked me out!! She took one out of the bed in the living room and brought it all the way to my bedroom and dropped it next to my bed on the floor and was whining?? So i picked it up and put it back and she did it a few more times over the next few days (same pup) and everyone kept telling me something was wrong with it and I was sooo worried ..... So I took it to the vet w the momma and had him checked out 100$ later and nothing was wrong??? He ended up being the fattest and healthiest???? Who knows maybe she just wants to be near u and in the bed w u and not the welping box??? Thats what I concluded b/c she was use to sleeping w me!!I would just watch and make sure shes feeding it and that it keeps thriving!!! She even was biting it and pushed it away a couple of times but I would tell her no and Iput it back and she stopped??? Who knows why they do that?? Good luck!!

Also, I kind of also agree that she could be telling me there is something wrong with the little girl. She's tinier than the others. However, momma didn't bring her to me.. she just carried her up on the bed and under the covers where I was sleeping. When I tried to see if something was wrong, she ran from me with the puppy in her mouth. Do you think i need to start supplementing the two tiny little girls in the litter? IF so, what should I use and how should I go about it? | |

| Kalina did that with her littlest puppy. She kept taking it out of the whelping box and putting it in one of the dog beds. I kept taking the puppy and putting it back in with the others. She nursed a little bit but passed on day 3. She was only a little over an ounce. I'm not saying this is what is happening in your case - just my own personal experience. Good luck with your litter.

I did supplement them a little bit the first few days - just a few drops in the side of their mouths while they were nursing. That seemed to get them over the hump.

| I used Just Born puppy formula. Most people like goat's milk instead. I only supplemented them a few times - I wanted Kalina to nurse them herself if possible.

| If the momma was use to sleeping with you then her behavior is normal. She probably had plans to move all the pups. It is very important that the momma be confined in a x-pen or small area where she cannot move her pups. Why won't she let you look at the pups? I would never let a momma control me in that manner. You should let the momma firmly know that you are allowed to pick up the pups and check them whenever you need to. As long as the pups are not crying they should be getting enough milk. Just make sure the momma is getting at least 4 good meals a day. The last meal should be at bedtime. |

| Thank you so much for your help and advice. I'm going to head to Petsmart and buy the supplement after I take them to the vet. I would be totally heartbroken if anything happened to any of the puppies. |
