| Recessed/ Retained Testicle Help Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I have a 3 lb 10 month old yorkie. He is very tiny . I guess I never noticed until today, but he has one large testicle and one tiny testicle. The tiny testicle moves up almost inside when he stands up, etc. Is this considered recessed? I think since he's so small and the large testi is big that it pushes the other one out of the way// Does this sound recessed or is that only when the testi is in the stomach, etc? thanks for any help.

| Young male does do have the ability of retracting testicles but you should be able to work it down and feel the testicle when the male is standing. A dog's testicles descend through the inguinal canal and this canal usually closes at around 4 months of age so once it is closed the testicles will be stuck either up or down. I do know there are exceptions to that because I have read instances where people have reported their dogs testicles dropping as late as one year. I also know that stress can cause a male to retract a testicle. I know of 8 month old male that had both testicles down but when he went to his first show he retracted one of his testicles and the judge had a hard time getting it to come down, but luckily it did and not long after that it was never a problem again. Without actually seeing your male it would be hard to say if he has an actual retained testicle or if, like you said, he just has one smaller than the other which it not that uncommon. My advise would be to take him to your vet and have the vet examine him. If he does have a retained testicle you would definitely want to have him neutered. |

| I can kind of massage the testicle down while he is standing, and it i s actually in the scrotum, next to the other one. So, i'm hoping maybe he is just "sucking up" the smaller one. Thanks for the advice.

| I have a male that didn't drop his first until he was 14 months old, and didn't drop the second until he was 16 months old. I think that in both instances, he "overheard" talk of being scheduled for neuter. |
