| Getting a dog to urinate I searched the threads and could not find anything, so here goes. I have a 13 month old male yorkie, Moses, and he will not pee! I cannot get him on any kind of schedule. I take him and my other yorkie, Isabel, outside first thing in the morning; she goes every time, sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. This is after sleeping at least 8 hours straight. I take them out as soon as I get home, same thing. If he goes then, I know he won't go at bedtime. But if he doesn't, 99% of the time, he doesn't go until morning. Now, I know a dog has to go more than 1x a day, so I'm sure he is using the carpet or throw rugs, but I can't find it and I can't catch him. I've tried the belly band, he waits til it comes off. Pee pads are always available, Isabel uses them I know, but I don't think he does. When we go for walks, he rarely will lift a leg, and here is Izzy marking everything she sees. It's driving me crazy. I have never seen a dog that will not pee. I can take him out alone and wait while he sniffs around for up to 20 minutes and he never goes. I got him from a breeder who was training him for show; is it part of their training not to mark or pee on command, or at least more than once a day? He eats and drinks what I think is normally and is fine in every way. Any suggestions are appreciated |

| I adopted a Yorkie that was shown in the ring ...and I had no problem with him peeing (everywhere) unless he was on a leash...as when he was on the leash he was ready for the ring :-) .....luckliy I had a fenced in back yard... That is very odd ....is his pee very concentrated? Does he have free run of the house during the day.....so he could be peeing and you not know it?

| yes, when he goes, it is strong. No, he doesn't have free run - they are confined to 2 rooms without carpet, so if he is going during the day, he is using the pee pad, but I have never seen him do that on the weekends when I am with him all day. On weekends, I take them out every 3 hours or so. Izzy goes, Mosey doesn't. True, when he is on leash, he will even more rarely lift his leg. I guess I am used to my other male dogs, they pee on everything when we are outside. Oh for a fenced yard! |
