| Just curious--stud service I am just curious. I know that people aren't allowed to advertise stud service on this site, and I was just wondering why? I am not a breeder yet, but I thought this forum is so full of experienced breeders, it seems like this it would be a great place to start discussing. Just some thoughts, Kate |

| I checked the rules. It doesn't state a reason as to why not.

| I have my own stud dog. And I don't let him be a stud service dog unless the dam is tested and meets the standard. It all depends on the owners and breeders what they choose to do with their studs. If you know of breeders in your area, you might ask them if they stud out their dogs to see of that is something that might interested you.

| If I were looking for a stud, this is how I would do it. I would look at my female, identify her faults, the proceed with my search for my stud. I would want a stud that met all the standards and was strong in the areas that I wanted to correct. If, I really liked the stud and his sire was available I'd go to the sire for stud service. After all you can see what the sire has produced. A little simplistic of an explanation, but without going into genetics, pedigrees that breeders go through when picking out a stud, it's the best I could do.

I have done so much genetic reading, and looking at pedigree's that its hard to find what you want, but once you do then you will pay a good penny for that puppy. Genetics is a huge part of finding what you want. I suggest that if your interested in breeding look for great line, and then see what the sire's genetic traits are as well as the dam. You also should go back at least 3-5 generations to get a good idea of what you will be getting.

| thanks for the info mary i personally would perfer my own stud to save my self from any possible headaches..you know your dog, where it came from and all its traits and of course you know the owner if its your dog...but if you go to someone else..you only know what they say and what their papers say..and you dont know how that owner is... i think there have been several instances on here where people were using studs and they didnt go about it the right way with contracts and so forth..its just easier to have your own jmo |

| As Mary said, you can sometimes get yourself where you have to go to an outside line. i boxed myself in with my stud and his girls so i purchased another male that I can breed or show from an outside line. |
