Default I have a tiny little question?

Hi all,

Most of you who come often know I have yorkie puppies on the ground, they are getting so big and strong. Bright eyed, shiney litte coats, and Im just now starting to handle them frequently. Those little puppy yawns, doesnt get much cuter then that.
As long as they are eating very well with zero problems past or present, the fatties will go to their new homes at 8 weeks. I know many of you think a good breeder does not send puppies home at that age, and I respect your opinions, and value your concerns. I spend an enormous amount of time getting my puppies ready and I would never send a puppy home I didnt believe was ready. I do care about my dogs and the next owners. This is not just lip service I mean it. I can assure you if it becomes a problem the time will change.
That being said heres my question............
I have a tiny "runt" , Im not sure if she will stay small but most likely. She is 6 1/2 oz at 2 1/2 weeks, very little but fat. She started with problems, being weak and unable to compete with the other puppies who are twice her size. Shes doing really well now and has learned to worm thru the others to nurse and shes doesnt require any supplement any more. How long would you keep her 3 or 4 months? Does anyone have any experience raising tinies? I try to breed for standard and dont breed for tiny yorkies. I just want to give this baby the best care I can. Will she be prone to alot of problems since she was a "runt" and started badly?

Can she come and live with me?

I don't really have an answer for you, other than to see how she grows from this point on. Youl'll have some idea in the next few weeks....

she can live with me im so horrible, ive only had toby for 2 months and i am allready looking for more yorky ads!!!!....... i wouldnt let one that small go to a new home at 8 weeks (just my opinion....... have never bred puppies, dont know anyting about it) BUT from what i have read and from what people have told me, those "tennies" like the one you are talkign about should be kept longer (i have actually heard of them being kept till 5 months old)

Default tinies

You mentioned your females were larger and got some larger pups. I see nothing wrong in letting a 2 pound plus go earlier then 12 weeks..especially to a home where they know how to care for a Yorkie. I have a rule of thumb..nothing goes under 10 weeks, no matter the size, I want two sets of shots and a full month of being weaned.
I have had many tinies and had a few until their deaths at, 14, even 15 yrs.
She is only 2 1/2 weeks, wait and see...I find you can not put a time limit on it. Watch her week by week. If she is a pound by 6 weeks and 1 1/2 by 9..and 1 3/4 or two by 12 weeks, she should do well with a person who knows small ones.
I have kept a few until 6 months, but it took that long to get to 2 1/2 pounds. Most of my tinies go at 16 weeks..after I have spoiled them beyond any hope.

Default Sydnee was 8 oz

Wow Sydnee was only 8 oz when I brought her home last week, and she is two months old. Are you saying that the breeder should have kept her longer?
Has she been cheated somehow? She seems to be doing well, I mean she already came in here at 8 oz and took the place over lock stock and barrel.

Heck my son went out and bought another belt so Sydnee could have his to chew on and gave her his wallet.

Michael ran out and bought a new water filter quickly when he found out that
the one was getting close and changed it, so she wouldn't have any impurities in her water.

Can you imagine what she is going to be able to do once she gets a bit of weight on her side. Lordy!!!!

It is not just that people think yorkies should not go to homes before 12 weeks for any reason. A mother dog plays a big part in the socialization of the puppies and eight weeks is just too early to remove toy puppies from the mother. A lot of the mother socializating does not start until they are walking good and playing at 5 and 6 weeeks and 2 weeks does not allow much time for mom to teach the pups the behavior they learn from her. About how to interact with other adult dogs, and how to behave in the social structure of the pack.

I also tell prospective puppy buyers to not accept a puppy that a breeder wants to let go before at least 10 weeks at the youngest and preferabley 12 weeks.

Default 8 OZ pup

Your girl is barely double the size of a 4 oz newborn. That is way too small for me when it comes to letting them go. That is no doubt one I would have kept for 6 months...I am very cautious..seen too many pet owners have huge vet bills with the tinies leaving too soon...just be careful and make sure she eats well. best wishes

Little girl is 8 ozs now, and she absolutely will not leave her at 8 weeks! I never even thought about that for a second, some may have misunderstood me.
My Rolly polly babies are 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 lbs now at 4 weeks.......my lord they are fat! Eating is coming along and they are still nursing. Getting so friendly too.
I really dont know how long little girl will stay here, at least 12 weeks if she has any problems at all, absolutely longer.............tinies are scarey! SHe has a home and I think her new mommy may die of anticipation before she gets there.........LOL.
It is extremely important my yorkies go to well educated wanted homes. I have deposits on 4 of them and I will refund them if the puppies seem bigger then the owners wanted. I want people to be happy with their puppies and I certainly dont want owners coming to a yorkie forum dissatisfied and lied too.
You cant make everyone happy but you can do your best within reason.

Hello!
My little girl is up to 10 ozs, she is eating well and at 5 weeks.

Question........
She seems weaker then the other puppies and walks a bit hunchbacked and wide legged at this point. SHe does not play as much as the other puppies. She seems less mature with her teeth not in like the other puppies either (little gum nodes though)
Is this typical of a small yorkie? I addressed this in another thread "runt in general discussion" but I needed some advice.
Her litter mates are twice as big and alot more agile and energetic. Does this sound like something is wrong to you, to those of you who have had this experience.
