| Puppy rights -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a confusing question concerning puppy rights. If a dog has an unplanned pregnancy, and the mom's family told the dad's family that they could have one of the puppies, isn't it within the mom's family's rights to change their minds. The dad's family said they would pay half of everything. A total of $380 was due, and $140 has been paid. The mom's family offered to give back the $140 that was paid and not collect the rest of the money. Thanks! Last edited by tammys; 07-15-2009 at 05:11 PM. |

| Another thought, had this not been an accidental breeding you would be providing a stud fee or a puppy back.

Dog being thrown on the ground by child. Dogs getting out of the backyard and wandering around the block - one even bit a dog walking on a leash. It's not an easy situation.

Or you can tell them up front why you're returning their money and all bets are off.

Yea, I was trying not to put too much info on such a public site, but that's the only way to get the point across. It's especially difficult b/c our families know each other so well, and I don't want to offend anyone, but I also need to keep these babies safe. Thank you.

You need to be up front with them. Explain to them in a reasonable manner why. There are some people that don't have the passion that some of us do about our animals. Animals are just animals to them Yes, the puppy's safety is your main concern...... If your planning on placing these pups, you need a contract anyway.....Google there are plenty of good contracts out there. I can't remember what County McKinney is in, Collin? I was in Tarrant County and drawn up to stand up in their courts.

| Just curious, how did an "accidental" breeding take place if the female and the male live in two different places? Please understand, I'm not judging, just asking?

| Her intact female, while in heat got out.....it happened fast. Been through it all with her already. Puppies are born all is well and now she has their welfare at heart.

Our neighbor's Yorkie got out, and the rest is history. I had no idea she was in heat. That sounds totally ignorant, but she must keep herself really clean, b/c I have never seen a drop of blood from her, and unless I'm rubbing her tummy, I don't notice the swelling. Days later the other family's husband told me that he had thought she was in heat b/c his dog kept trying to come over. So, that's the story that led me to preach to anyone who will listen, "Spay your dog if you're not going to breed; it can happen when your dog is restrained in your own front yard!" The babies' welfare are absolutely priority. They are precious, unexpected gifts. Last edited by tammys; 07-15-2009 at 06:48 PM.

I was told the odor can be detected by a dog at least a couple of miles away. Too bad she wasn't a cat, those crying boys would have told you what was going on.
